Guest burbles1 Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 Hi Jake, Welcome to the forum - glad you've been bitten by the flying bug! RA-Aus supports a program - Giving Young People Flying Training Support (GYFTS) - which provides a scholarship to help pay for your flying. Have a look at the thread: http://www.recreationalflying.com/showthread.php/75151-AirServices-Australia-helps-the-GYFTS-Program-Giving-Young-Flyers-Training-Support
Neil_S Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 Hi Jake, Glad you want to carry on flying and get your licence - you will be rapt when you do! Good luck and keep us posted! Cheers Neil
Guest Jake.f Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 I have heard about that GYFTS program, pity that applications for this year are closed. And yes I can't wait till I go flying again :)
Scooby Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 Good on ya Jake, i was the same in the way i had really no interest in flying although i have 500+ skydives. I took a trial flight and fell in love with it. You spread your wings once and then your addicted. Good luck with your future and i hope it works out for you! Cheers Scoob
mattbutton Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Hey Jake, want school do you attend in Coffs, I'm a Toormina boy myself, of 18 yrs back
mattbutton Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 At the Uni, it just kicked off in my senior year.
Guest Andys@coffs Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Hi Jake Welcome. I grew up in Coffs, left to join the RAAF and then private industry and have in the last few years moved back home in fact going to SCU at the same campus as you part time. I have a Jabiru J230 hangared up at South Grafton, Coffs Airport isnt that friendly when compared to South Grafton on a cost comparison basis, and unlike coffs isnt controlled airspace for almost all of the time that we would want to use the airspace and faciltities. Living to the North of Coffs its not that much of a hassle, though with all the Highway work its slower than it was. If you can learn to fly at your age then you truely will be among a very small percentage of people, most who get the flying bug cant really afford to do that much about it until late 30's or older, so if you can swing it then well done! regards Andy
youngster Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Welcome Jake, I'm in the same boat, although a few years ahead of you - I'm looking to start training in Coffs sometime soon as well. I just need to save a bit of cash and convince the missus it's a good idea! You have the advantage of having no missus to convince!
youngster Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Where are you looking at training at? Aero club or the aviation centre place? I'm looking at the Aviation Centre at the moment. I booked a TIF for Tuesday.
Hildy Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 I intend to do science or medicine at uni next year and somehow try fit in some flying too... Medicine as a career is quite compatible with flying, especially the shiftwork specialties. I'm doing shiftwork at the moment and am deliberately asking for evening shifts so that I can fly in the mornings.but now I need to work more overtime to be able to pay for my flying!
sseeker Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 G'day from another young flyer. I got into aviation from my brother in 2006, started the aviation programme at my high school in Year 8 2008 and progressed onto my pilot certificate in 2010. It's an awesome passion to have and I don't regret it one bit. You've been bitten by the aviation bug as they say... If you need a hand with your aviation study or have any questions to ask don't hesitate to post on the forum, a large group of friendly and very informative members are always willing to help. -Andrew
