I wrote a little article about my flying experiences up until first solo and it was accepted and printed in the April edition of Pacific Flyer magazine... Out today!!! Ok, I'm excited because it's the first time I've ever been published... In anything! Just needed to share!

It is interesting to note that a few years ago I wrote an article and submitted it to Raaus but they did not publish it so I sent it to Pacific Flyer and they did. My Son-in law Kevin will also be submitting an article on his flying training and his reasons for purchasing a Morgan Sierra so I wonder which magazine he should send it to. Alan.

Send the article to both then if one doesn't publish, the other may and you are covering both bases. Again, well done and enjoy the freedom you have gained.

We need more people willing to contribute to our mags and newsletters because such messages of enthusiasm and excitement encourage others to join us and become part of this very special recreational pastime. kaz

I think Pacific Flyer would be responsible for enticing a couple of readers over the years to give 'it' a go. And it is because they publish stories like yours. Real personal experiences and not just journolistic visions. I ended up writing about a dozen stories for them over 4 years or so just of interesting things i've done in aviation over the years. So keep them coming. ozzie

I took the magazine to work and showed it to a fellow student pilot, but everyone around was curious so one by one they borrowed the mag and read the article! A lot of them didn't have a concept of how far I had actually come, even though I've been telling anyone who asks! "Wow, I didn't know you were up to flying it by yourself!" they'd say. "Yep, and now I'm close to having a pilot certificate!" "Wow......Can I come flying with you?" "Some day soon!" is how most conversations go now... Oh, sorry about the spelling in the thread title... I was a little tired when I wrote it. Please mentally include an 'e' after the 'm'. Silly brain! Does anyone know if there is there any way to amend a thread title?

I'm glad you enjoyed it. Back to Pacific Flyer. Newsagent price of $7.50 Vs RAA of $6.00 RAA 64 pages of good stuff Vs PF with 48 pages of some good stuff and plenty of pretty ordinary (at best) stuff. Yet RAA is thinking of pulling newsagent circulation because they can't make a quid out of it? Yeah, I noticed that too. I actually originally wrote it for RAA, but only sent it into PF because people were telling me that you can win a free year's subscription. Alas, it was not me this time...

I find it pretty superficial most of the time and the whole publication looks cobbled together in an afternoon. Hey Black Rod. I must admit, it's not the slickest mag in the bunch! Unfortunately not, Burbles! Fortunately there are quite a few friends that were keen even before the article. I'm looking forward to a) being able to rent the plane any day of the week (not just flying school days) and b) finally to share flying with people (other than my instructor!). I have a mock flying test on Saturday, then one hour solo to rehearse whatever needs sharpening up and it's on to the big test! *Cue ominous music*

I just came in from a quick spin around the area in the old Lightwing, yesterday I'd promised my young neighbour (11yr. old) a fly soon. And the little bugger was up and had his chores done, on his sisters push bike and at our door before 6:30 this morning. ( I was thinking more like the weekend) At least he has his priorities right, had him back on the ground by 7:45 so he could get home in time to go to school. Anyway, what this is leading up to is that I came in to have a coffee and catch up with whats happening on the site and read your thread. Good on you mate that first solo is one flight you will never forget, and to wave it published, that's awesome. I get both PF and RAA mags. so am looking forward to reading your side of it.
