Hi DazzaI've just had the welds on a skyfox's (tail dragger) main undercarriage legs checked and some new welds done, then the steel tube was prepared and primed in two pack primer. Have you any recommendations on what fabrics would be good to use and then paint the the fabric for this area?

Cheers

Mike

Hi Mike, Stewart Systems recommend and I would use Ceconite or Dacron, Ekofill primer E 620, Make sure the fabric is cleaned and all finger prints are removed off the fabric use Heavy Duty Ekoclean.Top Coat with 2 part Poly urethane.

Sorry for not replying earlier, I havent been on lately, Ive been realy busy at work.I hope this helps.

PS- I was hit for $180 freight from the states. I would try and get it from NZ.002_wave.gif.62d5c7a07e46b2ae47f4cd2e61a0c301.gif

Today I managed to drop a piece of tube while working on the doors of my hangar and you guessed it, fell straight through port horizontal stab on my pup. That'll teach me to get the plane in the new hangar befor it's finished. Anyway, now I'm looking at how to fix it. I don't think I want to patch anything as i can just unbolt it and have the stab recovered on its own.

I had a look at all the potions involved with doing the covering myself and I think by the time i bought everything i needed to clean, prime, cover, stitch, tape, dope and paint everything I might as well try to find someone who does this work all the time and know's what they're doing.

So where do I find a business that recovers aircraft or aircraft parts? or should I just be asking a run of the mill aircraft maintenance shop about doing it?

Thanks for any info as I really have no idea where to start.

Scott...its not a hard process. I sat through the last 2 years of fabric covering demonstration at NATFLY. Mark (OME) will be able to help you im sure. Hes based at Camden airport. Hes moving house at the moment so probably not checking on here. I think he said hes offline for 2 weeks. If I was still in Oberon I would help you out with it. The most important thing is an adjustable clothes iron and a way of checking to get it at an accurate temperature. Once you have that, its like covering a RC model!

Yeah, I'm not at work for another week, but we'd be happy to guide you in he repair. I suggest that you de-rig the stab and come for a drive over to Camden sometime towards the end of next week. The boss will be back from Oshkosh, and can give you either a quote to do the repair, or we could quote give you some instructions so you can do the job yourself.

PM me if you need more info.

G'day there, It took me a while to work out who you were, I didn't know you were into full size aswell as models. Good to hear from you, I might fly up your way in the future and drop in. My plane was up your way at willow tree when i bought it.

Hi Scott...yes we battled it out a couple of times on the squash courts. Always been in to big planes too. Feel free to fly up this way anytime. We can collect you from any of the strips around here. Have a spare room if you need a place to kip. "Wakefield" strip could be an option. Just need to ask John who owns it. Im sure he would be ok with you landing there.

Willow Tree has a decent Pub now too!

Anyway keep in touch.
