pilotdave69 Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 Just wondered how many other schools /airports have Glider ops during school holidays.. YBTH (Bathurst) - at the moment its gliders galore, GA and RA aircraft sharing the air. Listening to CTAF the other day, it was busy. It didnt help that the main runway was in active due to new lighting being installed , only opening for REX to arrive and depart. I believe its open today. Right Circuits for GA and RA, left circuits for gliders. What are peoples view here.. ! it certainly doesnt worry me, great for the Air cadets all learning how to fly.
Guest davidh10 Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 I think the thermals have died for this season, this far south, but ordinarily, in the gliding season, we see gliding operations at:- Corowa (shared runway) Tocumwal (parallel runways) Wangaratta (shared runway) Benalla (parallel runways) Mount Beauty (shared runway) I've been in the air at the same time at Corowa and Benalla. Great to watch, but they can move fast and are sometimes hard to see, so appropriate use of radio aids situational awareness.
willatodd Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 i did my solo through the air cadets back in the 90's it was great every school holidays go to bathurst and have a ball two groups one week each was the standard back then i cant recall a single disagreement whilst i was going down there.
pilotdave69 Posted April 14, 2011 Author Posted April 14, 2011 There are quite a few schools with gliders then.. I will be heading out for a flight in a 230 later today.. shall see how busy a Friday afternoon can be. Weather looks pretty good too.
Yenn Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 Don't they glide at Narromine now. I called in there once at about 4pm, just after Easter. I had to come down and miss out on good flying because it was getting too dark.
Guest davidh10 Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 Plenty of gliding going on at Benalla on Saturday. I was monitoring their CTAF as I passed about 15nm to the north.
