Admin Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 Ross,Just edit your email address to ready at instead of the @ symbol. Spammers crawl these and other forums and once your address is known you will starts getting emails about porn, banking and all sorts of other stuff. They are a shocker.I delete many every day. The reason was I used to have my email address posted on many forums etc. I know I probably still do ;) The only forums here that are unprotected are: 1. Announcements 2. Anything Aviation for Sale 3. Aircraft ADs & ANs List 4. Incidents & Accidents All other forums like this one are locked to members only so crawlers etc can not access the content and therefore email addresses in the posts. Put your email address in one of the 4 forums above and you can be sure of getting spam
Guest Fred Bear Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Ok did not realise what was and wasn't secure there Ian. Thanks. My message was just a bit of a 'heads up' into these creeps that do this on the net. Should be a law against that too and should be enforced.
Ross Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Hi Mike In regard to trip to Narromine - Be careful of landing in irrigation country as there are a number of different types of surface irrigation that may be bad for the health of your aeroplane. Row Crop and bed irrigation where there are parallel furrows or "hills" from 75 cm apart upwards - probably a prop strike if landed along the rows or undercarriage removal or worse if landed across. Some crops are grown on "beds" which are very big furrows and hills. Some orchards have trees on beds and furrows in between and that sort of system can be used for some broadacre crops depending on the soil type. Border check bays are generally level with a slight slope top to bottom are fine if aligned with the wind and long enough and growing pasture. They can be bounded by banks and channels with the banks between bays up to 45 cms high. Watch for sheep and cattle and bales of hay. Light brown rocks (sheep & cattle) have a habit of standing up and running past the front of cars and aeroplanes. Contour bays could be square or rectangular or irregularly shaped depending on if they have been landformed but are enclosed by earth banks up to 50 cms high with a furrow on each side of the bank. All types could have row crop hills and furrows which I would definitely not land in. Near Peak Hill South of Narromine there is some Gilgai country (a natural phenomenon) which you can generally see from the air say 5,000 feet as circular nests if you like. They are a series of continuous sunken holes in the soil with slightly raised areas around them. The holes can be up to about 20 metres across and a metre deep below the surrounding surface. They are also notorious for holding water for quite some time after rain - quite disconcerting if you are driving fast around a paddock at night or in daylight when the grass is long and you drive straight into one. You could go from say 80 km/hour to stopped in about six or seven metres. You would probably need a tractor to pull you out even if you were driving a four wheel drive. There is plenty of this kind of soil around western NSW Deniliquin, South of Balranald and the Narromine, Trangie, Moree, Narrabri and Goondiwindi areas and they may not be as visible from the air as the examples somewhere near Peak Hill. They are generally on the grey or black self mulching soils. There are some other obstructions near Peak Hill as it was a prolific area for gold mining in the early days and there are lots of old mining holes and their associated heaps of rock and soil all around that area. There is also a new open cut gold mine there as well. For an explanation look up Gilgai with Google. From Ardlethan north (keeping west of the West Wyalong to Narromine road) you will generally be flying over mostly lightly timbered grazing land or dryland cropping country. The safest thing to land on is generally cropping land that is in a pasture phase (but watch for stock). Avoid cattle & horse paddocks as they will chew bits out of the aeroplane. Sheep are not quite as bad for chewing. Cropping land growing grass (pasture) is noticeable as you can generally see where it has been cultivated as the previous crop sown round and round the paddock shows up in the grass for a year or two. Also a pasture crop paddock generally but not always has most of the dead timber and stumps removed or stacked up. Paddocks with crop in them often have unconsolidated soil where as pasture paddocks are generally fairly solid.
Guest bateo Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Ian, I could be going blind, but on the Natfly map in the RA-aus magazine where all the exhibitors are located, I did not see a Recreational flying stand/area?? Do you know which site your located on as yet? Is there a possibility to park our toys as a group???
Admin Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 Hi Sam Just spoke to Middo and we along with a couple of others were accidently left off the map so a new map is getting drawn up - thanks for letting me know, I am currently about 2 editions of the mag behind at the moment. About parking together perhaps after Avalon we ascertain who is going and when and the first person there could reserve the appropriate number of spots with some rope or something.
Guest bateo Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 No worries, It was just a thought to try and attract some more people in to the forum... And I thought I'd make sure Rec flying had a display area, I presumed so as you are doing a presentation there.. Maybe you could post the map on the forum once you have final copy!! looks like another great show.. Cant wait!
Guest Fred Bear Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 Now here's hoping there is a spare Jab to take! If not, looks like your idea of a 4 seater is a good one Lambadaman.
Case Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 G'day All, It looks like I will be able to get down to Narromine (driving) for Friday. Does anyone know if there are official daily opening and closing times for the event.
Guest Juliette Lima Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Hi case, Its all fairly informal with some aircraft up and about from first light, and many people wandering about until dusk. Some pilots camp with their aircraft, others including families and visitors camp in the adjacent camping ground (good facilities). Most town accommodation is already booked...probably from last year. Plenty of food including sausage breakfasts from Rotary/Lions manned food tents and stalls, also drinks and food from the nice club facilities. Bring a good hat and plenty of suncreen !! Safe trip JL
Guest Fred Bear Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Ok now this event is looking at getting closer and closer. Anybody know the go with camping? Looks like we are driving up this year. There are a few other options but this one most likely. Can we camp with our vehicles? That would be best because that way I can get power from my inverter. You need it with kids, trust me.I am sure if I could find my latest RAA mag there would be some info in there but...Myself and family will probably leave Saturday morning around 3am straight after my night shift and that Will get us into Narromine nice and early Saturday!Anyone else here doing similar, ie, driving and camping?
Guest Fred Bear Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Some pilots camp with their aircraft, others including families and visitors camp in the adjacent camping ground (good facilities). JL, do you know more about this, what sort of facilities/arrangement etc? Any info would be appreciated.
Guest Fred Bear Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 I shall Chris.I know what they are like mate don't worry about that. Especially going into Wellington and Dubbo areas and the last stretch into Narromine.Bad buggers I tend to stick 10 clicks below the limit when travelling at that time mate.Maybe we can meet somewhere or maybe you are planning on leaving at a different time?
Guest Fred Bear Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 All, further, I am also going to be conducting some ACARS monitoring demos in the camping area (weather etc permitting) whilst at Narromine from my vehicle. I was thinking of doing this in the afternoon/evening when things wind down so as to not interfere with the days activities. All this will be conducted whilst sharing a can or two between flying friends ha ha:laugh: ACARS is basically messages sent from flight crew from high altitude jets passing overhead where we will be and many hundreds of kms away from us. The a/c position you will be able to see plotted on a map and you will also be able to view engine data, passenger details (shh), a/c faults, delays, general cockpit comms etc etc. It's all very interesting if you have not seen it before. No I am not selling anything it's just a demo for other a/c enthusiasts.I am sure you will enjoy it.We will also be able to monitor passenger flights overhead Narromine so it should all be heaps of fun.:)
lambadaman Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Darren, It looks like the four seater is out! Sorry! As for camping on site, the camp area allows you to park beside your car, so no problems there. As for me , as I cannot get a Lambada to Narromine this year, I will be staying in Parkes with friends (will see some aerobatics!) and driving up on Saturday, I will catch up with you then. I hope to get out the Oaks before then though!!!!
Guest Juliette Lima Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Hi Darren, The Aerodrome Caravan Park is the one immediately adjacent to all the action (50 -100 metres) however the person taking bookings is in Sydney today and won't be back until late Monday. (I called earlier today). There is another caravan/camping park called the Rose caravan park (I think)....it is very nice, lots of trees, and is only about 3-4 minutes drive from the aerodrome. I managed to get a self contained cabin two years back....last minute cancellation, guy held off until dark before giving it to me ! Check narromine accommodation for details. The Aerodrome caravan park gets a little cramped with all sorts of camping options, tents, vans, utes etc....powered sites and non powered sites may still be left ??? Bit tight but nice people....family friendly. Wayne Fisher, the guy who built my 912 Drifter wants to take the aircraft to Narromine as a showpeice of his work.....If you enjoy Drifters, I'll arrange a flight for you with Wayne ( Wayne is one of the earliest AUF now RAA CFI,s) and is a former World champion hang glider pilot.....He has an aerobatic Drifter, and in previous years has given some stunning displays at Narromine. Two years ago they shut him down, something to do with insurance and CASA. Hope this helps JL Darrin, try the Narromine Shire Council site for all the town's accommodation.
Guest Fred Bear Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 No problem. All the options sound good. You must have got my sms Gerry? That was my other option the four seater. Oh well. Gerry, do you know if that other Jab is back online?I think driving is the better option anyway as we can catch up with others and not rush having to fly out etc. The dumping of the tent beside the car sounds like a good idea. Wayne Fisher, the guy who built my 912 Drifter wants to take the aircraft to Narromine as a showpeice of his work.....If you enjoy Drifters, I'll arrange a flight for you with Wayne JL, that would be great! Now that would make for some awesome video!!!It would be an honour.
bushpilot Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Does anyone know (from past experience) if there is much set up on the Thursday? (The day before official opening?) A mate and I plan to fly up just for day (in his Cessna 182), but we can only get there on Thursday. Apparently there are forums for instructors that day - and my guess would be a lot of exhibitors would be setting up... Would appreciate feedback. Thanks Chris
Guest Juliette Lima Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Darrin, My pleasure..the 912 has an awsome climb rate and Wanye can pilot you from the back...I'll talk with him ...your wife might also like a flight, the front has a full canopy, the rear partial...Drifter flying at is best. JL
Guest Juliette Lima Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Chris, A few early birds only and displays being set up Thureday arvo and Friday morning...best days ,Friday, BIG DAY Saturday, then Sunday...weather permitting. JL
Guest Fred Bear Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Ok JL that would be fantastic mate! :) As for the wife, no chance. I have tried and tried to get her in the Drifter at The Oaks and no go She does not know what she is missing!
Guest Fred Bear Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 There is another caravan/camping park called the Rose caravan park (I think)....it is very nice, lots of trees, and is only about 3-4 minutes drive from the aerodrome I tried to call this Rose Gardens Caravan Park and apparently the number is disconnected? Also not listed in the White Pages so wondering if they have closed down?
Guest Juliette Lima Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Hi Darren, Wayne is a master with drifters....my wife felt the same and eventually flew with him in Lismore....was'nt long before they were doing loops and all sorts of aerobatics in his VH registered 503 Drifter....She came down saying 'more, more' hmmm?? Perhaps when she sees the aircraft, its beautiful...I've taken kids up as well as my 83 year old 'mum in law'. Sorry about the Rose Gardens. JL
Guest Fred Bear Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 No problems at all. Not bad for an 83 y/o! ;) Agreed there is nothing better than flying in the Drifter. As for that van park, don't know what happened there.
Guest Juliette Lima Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Hi Darrin, Just learned the Rose garden caravan park shut down in December last. My wife felt the same about Drifters until she eventually went for a fly with Wayne in his VH registered 503 Drifter....Within no time they were doing loops and all sorts of aerobatics.....arrived back singing out 'more more'.....hmmmm?? Perhaps when she sees the aircraft?...it's beautiful, and the front passenger is fully protected from the elements. I've taken kids and my 83 year old Mother in law...she loved it. In any event, you're welcome. JL
