Hey Bob and Samuel 002_wave.gif.62d5c7a07e46b2ae47f4cd2e61a0c301.gif(and everyone else), here`s one story! Fran and me have a nice Tinnie, these days so, we`ve been going fishing in the Mulgrave river, for a couple of hours, after dark!

A few nights ago,we`re sitting there peacefully in the Tinnie and a big Croc, about 50 meters away, starts singing out and one further up the river replies,so they started talking to each other for a while!.... At night, a croc`s eyes will shine red, when light from a torch or spotlight hits them, on the way back to the boat ramp, we saw several, some fairly big and not so big!

Here`s one fish, the Croc`s didn`t get, I got it a couple of nights ago! 56 cm Grunter, one 43 cm the night before.

717236181_Grunter(Large).jpg.e59a085313d20e234117492e95db1025.jpg

To listen to the sounds a Croc makes, go here....

Nev, I`ve never so much as been scratched by a Croc or an Ultralight aircraft, but I`ve just finished attending to the back of my left hand, that I sliced open, with the prop of the 40 HP, 4 stroke Yamaha, Tinnie engine.

Putting the leg back on, I decided to just touch the starter, to engage the prop shaft, I thought it was in neutral, it wasn`t, I was holding the leg up, with my left hand, the prop only move a couple of inches but it hit the back of my hand with enough force to give me a cut, right to the bone, 2 inches long! A couple of millimeters closer to my fingers and I`d be having surgery, now! 020_yes.gif.58d361886eb042a872e78a875908e414.gif

I recall the words of a croc expert at kakado. To a croc you are a floating Bain marie, in a tinnie. I also have a friend who for years has been extensively river fishing in the NT, who now is very concerned about the croc numbers and size in the rivers he fishes. Be careful my friend. You wouldn't fly your plane in a sky full of pterodactyls.

PS Hope the hand mends well. Nev

Yes yes Frank , I know you have been doing this for years, but we are not getting any younger and our thoughts/reactions are not necessarily what they were . You will be a Septaugenarian soon and, sorry to say, but it's all downhill from there . Crocs have been known to leap into small boats, and we would like to have you around for a few years yet ! . I guess what I'm saying is, it's a bit like VFR pilots who have gotten away with flight into IMC a few times, but don't realise that the clock is ticking down. ....... Yeah it should, could have been a lot worse though had it cut across the tendons!

Can`t argue with that, Bob! The fact I just got hit with the prop doing a job I`ve done several times over the years, shows that.

Yeah, please stay away from the crocs. We want to see lots more drifter pics from you.

Believe me, I really am aware of the dangers that Croc`s pose and yes! A Croc can launch itself into a Tinni, one big enough, can also come up under it and capsize it, the situation is this, though! Croc numbers have increased dramatically since they became protected and because of this, with every hatching that occurs every year, the next generation has to find their own territory so they`ve gone further up the rivers, into fresh water and further south along the Queensland east coast! it`s become harder to stay away from them and there`s no telling exactly where one might be!

four_mile_stinger_net.jpg

Shortly, these nets will be off the beaches up here, for the jellyfish stinger season! On two occasions that I`m aware of,over night,a Croc has gone into the swimming area of these nets and had to be removed, when it was discovered the next day! People swim in these enclosures at night and I reckon they believe,it`s safe to do so!

Frank.

Ps, Do we stop doing everything that could harm us? For me the answer is, NO, so I hope to continue with the Drifter pics and a fish pic or two.

Hi Everyone,

I have been pretty busy this weekend getting ready to move house, my wife requested that I slow the flying up for a bit to get ready for the move, however after watching the bottom lip quivering through the day and the whistful looks skywards she relented and gave the go ahead for a fly Sunday Morning on the condition that she had dibs on the back seat. Couldn't get to MKT quick enough, piled the wife into the back seat and took off for Bynoe Harbour tracking over Middle Arm, the township of South Port and headed towards the mouth of Bynoe Harbour. The wife mentioned that she was hungry so we headed to Crab Claw for a Bacon and Egg Sandwich and coffee meeting up with another club member while there. Anyway it was another great day for a fly and here are a few pics.

Goodonya Kev!.....Guys! Here`s my little weekend story.....Alison, our eldest Granddaughter, her husband Sam and their two daughters, Brooklyn and Isla, live in a second house here on our property! Alison is due ( over due in fact ) to give birth to a Son, any day now and he will be the first son to Alison and Sam and first Great Grandson, to Frances and me.

Two of Alison`s Bride Maids, at her wedding, flew up from Brisbane to spend the weekend with Alison so we had a family and friends, get-together! I asked if anyone would like to go for a fly and!!!! you guessed it............

In the back seat, is Johannes, the brother of one of the girls who flew up to see Alison. First time Ultralight flight.

Byron! a friend of Alison...First time, Ultralight flight.

Arlen! Boyfriend of our youngest Granddaughter,Kristy. Second flight with me.

And so! Some more Drifter flying and fun was had by all.
