M61A1 Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 I've seen it on several Drifters, not uncommon. As Frank says, look out for corrosion underneath it . I have seen fairly severe corrosion on the aluminium panel underneath the landing gear bracket. When you re- install the bracket , make sure both surfaces are well primed, preferably with epoxy primer, and seal the two surfaces to keep moisture out. I had to replace the panel in mine, and it spent its last 20 years in the outback.

Cheers thanks for the info. I will make sure that it is inspected, cleaned and primed when I put the new bracket on. Gonna take my time and make sure that it is done properly, its my wifes favorite plane to fly in so I cant be to careful. 1

farri Posted June 20, 2017 Author Posted June 20, 2017 Just got back from Croc spotting...Last Saturday I spotted a huge one that I estimated to be well over 5 mts, sunning itself on a sand bar in the lagoon at Palmers Point, in the area where Warren Hughs was fatally attacked, while spear fishing, on the 18 th of March, this year! also spotted one around 4 mts, on a sand bar in the Mulgrave river, unfortunately, I didn`t have my camera, that day....Had my camera today, but didn`t see any Crocs`. kevb Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 Hi Everyone, Finally got the Yellow Hornet back into the air today after doing quite a bit of maintenance, here's her first flight after two and a half months of sitting idle. Here's a few pics of a trip to Gunn Point approx 25nm East of Darwin. The conditions were perfect, even a little chilly, thought at one stage that I could do with a light jacket. Anyway here's a few pics. 7

facthunter Posted July 9, 2017 Posted July 9, 2017 How many hours has that airframe done Franco? You put it to good use? Nev
farri Posted July 10, 2017 Author Posted July 10, 2017 How many hours has that airframe done Franco? You put it to good use? Nev G`Day Nev, As you know, I`d have to go through the log book to give you exact hours...When I was instructing, I held an L2 certificate, to maintain my own AC and I`ve refurbished the Drifter a couple of times over the years. Yes, I do put it to good use: I`ve always done so... Apart from the dual flights, weather permitting, I like to fly solo a couple of time a week. Franco. 3
farri Posted July 14, 2017 Author Posted July 14, 2017 I`ve just got back from a quick Croc spotting flight,up the Mulgrave River: Didn`t need to go far to see two sunning themselves on the sand bars, about 500 mts appart... I guestimate both to be 5+ mts...Photo of the second one didn`t turn out. Franco. 1
SSCBD Posted July 14, 2017 Posted July 14, 2017 Hi Frank - How come you did not land and get some close ups of the crocks - looks like plenty of room for the drifter to put down with your skill set as you know I know!!! Smile! Best 2
facthunter Posted July 14, 2017 Posted July 14, 2017 Never smile at a crocodile, the song goes. They are scared of nothing now they don't get culled. Nev 1
