Good show all round. Wouldn't it be nice if they could get all three Lancs in the air together, followed by the 52 Spits. Ah, we can but dream.

Are there only 2 Spitfires flying in Aus?

Temora now has a Mark VIII and a Mark XVI.

I don't know what happened to Col Pay's Spitfire but I don't think it is around any more.

We had a bunch of them at the end of WWII and a bunch of Mustangs as well but the Government and Military didn't think it safe to let mere civilians buy them so they trashed them instead.

Col sold his Spitfire to Temora, and they repainted it with the Grey Nurse colours..... Would have been nice of them to keep it original. Their second Spitfire is Sir Tim's and was in New Zealand for many years before coming to Australia.

There are only around 13 flying in the UK at the moment.

There might be only two airworthy Spits in the country, but there are also four others... one at the War Museum still in its wartime paint, one for the Darwin museum and reportedly two others.

Around the world there are 19 flyable, including one Seafire.

There are two airworthy Lancasters, one with the Battle of Britain Flight (RAF) and the other in Canada. There is a Lancaster thats not airworthy, but is kosher to do taxi runs and fast taxi, and thats also in the UK.

But I know of only 13 of flying Hurricanes (including two Sea Hurricanes) flying at the moment, but there are, thankfully a number unde restoration.

After the war, no one wanted the planes (bad memories and stuff) but you could buy a NEW Spitfire in its crate for 50 quid.

I remember seeing a WWII Tank near Maryborough, Victoria, which a bloke bought surplus after the war for a few quid. Apparantly the bloke had some sort of plane as well, so my old man told me. I think it's quite possible that there could be more planes out there, that the owners are keeping quiet about.

It sure would Ben, and i'd almost bet my hat it will happen in the future. That's if I didnt like my hat so much. I have been on a property in Maryborough that has a large number of old vehicles from the early 1900's - yet the guy tells no one about his collection. It's not hard to imagine that the same thing might happen with old Aircraft that some nice old bloke has sitting in a shed somewhere.. we can live in hope anyway
