qld-blue
Hello to all. I'm beginning to gather data about a savannah for use as follows :- I want to visit many outback places i've already seen via road travel, but without the corrugations ! The Sav seems to be the choice. I'd like to be able to carry 2 pax, so fuel load needs to be watched, and fuel availability is critical, so I'm thinking an 80hp rotax using standard unleaded is the answer. Speed is not a particular concern for me, but what is the realistic cruise in an 80hp Sav with 2 up. I have found these places having standard unleaded fuel within 500 metres of the airstrip, and any feed-back from you all about additional places, and any corrections is appreciated; as is any further advice of course. Quite a number of these places came from JG's notes on outback fuel, and his tales have inspired me. Thanks JG. figures listed show hundreds of metres walk to fuel - eg birdsville 100 metres 0 metres is fuel on airstrip QLD, BIRDSVILLE-1,BOURKE&WILLS RH-2,CALOUNDRA-2,CAMERON CORNER-2, CHARTERS TOWERS-0,EULO-2,HELLS GATE RH-1,JUNDAH-4,LONGREACH-5, MUSGRAVE STN-0,NOCCUNDRA-1,QUILPIE-4,RICHMOND-0,ROLLESTON-4, ST GEORGE-2,THARGOMINDAH-4 NSW BYROCK 3,COOTAMUNDRA-4,MILPARINKA-1 SA BORDER VILLAGE RH-2,CADNEY-1,MT DARE-5,NULLABOR RH-0,PENONG-3, WILLIAM CREEK-1,WUDDINA-4,YUNTA-5 WA BALADONIA RH-1,BILLABONG RH-2,CAIGUNA RH-1,COCKLEBIDDY RH-1, FORREST-0,GILES-5,NANUTARRA RH-5,OVERLANDER RH-4,SANDFIRE RH-3, TJUKAYIRLA RH-2 NT BARKLY HS-2,BORROLOOLA-5,CAPE CRAWFORD-3,GEMTREE-1,KULGERA-2, LAJAMANU-1,MATARANKA-4,RABBIT FLAT RH-3,TI TREE-4,WAUCHOPE-
Ultralights
Our savvy with the 100Hp and prop piched at 21deg, cruises at 87 kts with 5100 rpm at MTOW, when 1 up with half fuel it will cruise at 90 with 5100 rpm. as for fuel we have 110 ltr capacity, which is standard tanks plus 1 reserve tank, 3 total, it has an empty weight of 280 kg, so with full tanks at about 75 kg, it gives us about 190 kg left over for us and baggage. if we want to take some baggage we just dont fill the third tank, and still have a 4 hr endurance. HEON
Standard unleaded is OK in 912 UL (80 hp) and I think (have not recently checked) this engine is OK with 10% ethernol which is in most standard unleaded HOWEVER ANY ethernol is not compatable with a lot of aircraft fuel tanks and possibly fuel lines. If in doubt use Avgas. Read Rotax recommendations regarding oil changing however. In inland 98 practically unattainable, and 95 infrequently available. I personally use 98 unleaded or Avgas in all my Rotax engines (don't want to get confused and put 91 into a 914) mainly because to the best of my knowledge no main brand fuel put ethernol in it...all my fuel tanks are fiberglass (ethernol eats it). Costs more, but less than new tanks.
