Here are some photo's of the performance through the Skyview. What I was trying to achieve was to see if the altitude compensating Carbs actually work. looking at the EGT. Now what I did was to fly at 1000ft at 25.1 inches of power level off take a photo then do the same at 2000, 3000 & 4000 ft. Have a look and maybe the experts can tell me a few answers. Why is the air speed at 88/89 from 1000 to 3000 but in the 4000 photo it's 93? some one said it is the constant speed prop doing a better job at altitude. Talking about the constant speed prop I set the pitch to do 5780 rpm straight and level and the plane was pulling hard through to when it hit the wall at 100 knots, wouldn't go any faster. So I thought throw the prop into auto and it should go a bit quicker, but all it did was change the fuel burn. At 5780 it was burning 26 lph then at 5000 rpm it went down to 22 lph. Another thing have a look at the horse power at each altitude.451648140_photo4.JPG.a2739b8e0f806747f1f808bbbb187166.JPG

Greg. I don't know how you have it set up but if you are reading TAS, you would expect speed to go up with height. The gear I have for my new plane will read TAS.

Reckom I would like to have a fly in it.

That is a beautiful Sav Gundy... I reckon 100knots would be plenty fast enough for a Sav... are there Savanah's that do more than 100knots flat out?

The dynon shows TAS 100 knots at 4000 ft GS at 88 knots...The centre of the waterfall display shows about 94 knots....what is this value represent?

94 Kts is the INDICATED airspeed, True airspeed is taking altitude and temp into consideration, GS is speed over the ground.

also check the X-wind and temp readings also!!!augie.gif.8d680d8e3ee1cb0d5cda5fa6ccce3b35.gif

Would like to thank everyone for there encouraging comments on my plane. I've installed my HUGE 8.50x6 tyres the other day and couldn't resist a test fly. The 8.50's lift the hole plane up 2" so getting into the cockpit you have to lift your but a little higher, this gives a lot more visibility over the nose while taxiing. I have let the front tyre down flat and measured between the prop and ground which I still have 4" of clearance so I'm happy with that. Ground handling is superb, it is a little smoother while taxiing over rougher ground as the tyres soak up the bumps. In the air you can not tell the difference in handling, other than a loss of 2-3 knots of air speed. Here are a couple of photos. 080_plane.gif.36548049f8f1bc4c332462aa4f981ffb.gif1247338329_photo5.JPG.60c2f5d92052c1e49c62f637eef6e872.JPG004_oh_yeah.gif.82b3078adb230b2d9519fd79c5873d7f.gif

Hi Greg

I would think the landings feel softer as well on touchdown. You have a proper tundra tyre and fork on the front dont you? The tundra front tyre is it the same diameter as the 600:6?

Indicated. It felt as though it was still increasing speed till it hit 100 then just stopped. Others might go faster mine is a little draggy with wheels.

Yes I do have a Tundra and fork on the front. The landings are soft but that could be the pilot. hehe

Ballpoint, I take it your plane is a "factory" aircraft?

Has to be! - with the quality of "19" builds around it's a shame we can't use them for other than owner training. Working on this IMHO would be far more useful than other fish we are trying to fry!

Well guys mine should be here before Christmas all going well....

Congratulations on the order of your Savvy Neil (and obviously the sale of the J120!). Look forward to seeing it in the flesh over the new year. Particularly look forward to seeing Mark's Savvy build soon too. Holidays just started now, and after taking the kids away to Bali next week, hope to start meeting some of the many Savvy builders/owners we seem to be fortunate to have on the Sunshine Coast.

Cheers all,

Mike.

Mine stops being a cross continent float plane on the 3rd January- Santa obviously doesnt have to clear customs but Savannah's do.

I saw Rick's Sav at YCAB the other day- nice and purposeful.

Is that when it hits port Neil?...I have a CNC machine shipment arriving on the 3rd into port but doubt if I will see it out of customs and AQIS before the 10th

Probably on the same boat mate- Yep, that's the port date. I guess I should be flying it away around mid month or a little earlier. It's been so long now I'm not getting too excited, anyway by the sounds of that rain outside it might be better floating on the boat. The only thing going up faster than the euro exchange rate at the moment is my rain tank.

Did you get the long range tanks?

Savannah 8020 is born! Flown home this afternoon in the beautiful Savannah "S" smooth air to its new training home at Caboolture. Reg is an absolute legend and everything was on time, as promised and professional. His Aerokits business is stand out IMHO.IMG_0909.thumb.JPG.d0933a5d149baac725240777c8b4b2df.JPG
