Has anybody visited Oshkosh and camped there? What were the facilities like? I'd like to go but I prefer to travel alone and stay onsite. Just looking for information at this stage....

Greetings Geoff

Camping on the grounds at Oshkosh consists of anything from a one man pup tent to a $700,000 'you-beaut' motor home but despite the thousands of inhabitants in Camp Scholler over the week of Airventure, there is nothing lacking as regards amenities/facilities. That said, we didn't need or look for community kitchens onsite. Spent two weeks on the field in 2009 and not once was there a hot shower not available, a toilet not working or a question not answered or assistance not cheerfully given by any of the hundreds of volunteers. Assuming you have no personal transport, everything (groceries or fast foods) is available on the grounds however there are constant bus runs into town (just the other side of the airstrip) if you want a break from the 24/7 aviation environment. If I have one complaint about Oshkosh week it would be that a person has to cram at least 14 days worth of hard pedalling into 7 days just to even see part of it (you won't do it all). Troll thru the pretty comprehensive wrap-ups on file in this forum from members who have attended in the past. Plan on going- you'll love it. cheers Riley

All your questions answered right here www.airventure.org/

I'm heading over for my second trip this year. just sorted it all yesterday.

suggest you get your airfares sorted now. Join EAA NOW for pre arrival discount etc. With the dollar the way it is the trip is well worth it. It is a eyeopener of a experience.

23 July YSSY - KLAX - KOSH. Then the show.

After that, I'm looking around other parts of the states.

We are heading over for the third time,

As Riley said, on our second trip over we found a whole section of the air field that we missed on the first trip.

We stay at the University, but i think it now fully booked by now.

When you get there dont forget to go to the international visitors tent and register.

You can also leave messages on the Australian section of the notice boards.

We are also leaving 23rd July from Brisbane into LAX over nighting and Chicago the next day then drive to Oshkosh.

Might see you there.

well I've decided to go and take my tent, I think that a sleeping bag might be excessive, maybe I'll take a summer one. I notice that it's about the same cost to take the train from San Francisco but taking 51 hours!......Hmmm worth thinking about...So, see you all there?

I'll be travelling light heading there but will be loaded right up coming home.

I'll do the same this year and hit Walmart for all the camping gear. Last trip picked up everything i needed including chair esky and case of beer for well under $100us.

At the end of the show i left it all with the South Africans that store all their gear onsite as they always have a large group attending every year.
