Guest OzRunways Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 We've posted version 2.0 to Apple for approval on 02Jun11. They currently take anything from 4-14 days (average 7) so hopefully it will be out around 10th June. Some juicy details: Private Subscription $75 / year = 12 month subscription and amendments to ERSA (With Runway Distance Supplement), AIP and EVERY Map (WAC, VTC, VNC, ERC High/Low, TAC, PCA & OpenStreetMap). Professional Subscription = $110 / year = Private + Dap East & West. Normally all these documents are around $1500/year :) v2.0 FEATURES: - Full GPS moving maps. See your aircraft (and track history) in real time. - Choice of overlays onto maps: Aerodromes, ALA's, HLS's, VFR Waypoints, IFR Waypoints & Navaids. - Direct-To Functionality, with standard GPS information such as EET, ETA, DTG. - Press on the map and a list of nearest navaids, waypoints and aerodromes pops up with frequencies, morse ident & field elevations. Choose an aerodrome and you will get a list of ERSA & DAPs to choose from. You can direct-to this waypoint from here! - Every WAC chart in Australia has been stitched together to form a SuperWAC! No more changing at the map edge boundaries. - HSI with movable bugs and needles. Resize and move the HSI to a convenient place on the screen so you're map isn't obscured. Use the HSI to set up runway orientations as you're flying into an aerodrome so you can visually see the circuit direction before you get there. - Weather radar popup that shows your current GPS position.

Ultralights Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 will the GPS and moving map technology go over to the approach plates? so you can plot your track on the approach plate itself?
Guest OzRunways Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 will the GPS and moving map technology go over to the approach plates? so you can plot your track on the approach plate itself? It is on our future to do list, but not a very high priority as most of our users are day VFR pilots. It is of course further complicated by the fact that to make it work, we need to geo-reference 1800 approach plates by hand to start with and 300 or so updates every three months! So it's a big job... Yes but when will an Android version be available? Android is an interesting beast; get's a lot of media attention, lots of devices on the shelves, the numbers say as many devices out there as iOS, but: all my fellow developers who have ported their software to Andoid report only 5-10% of their income is from Android! So to be honest, we have lowered our priority somewhat. What we'll most likely do is to get version 1 out first, which just has ERSA, DAPS and AIP and see how that goes before we invest a lot of money in making something as complete as OzRunways 2.0. (We need to hire someone as we don't have time to do Android ourselves; porting to Android is a 100% re-write of the software.) In the mean time: just buy an iPad! Flying using OzRunways rocks and it's still two grand cheaper than a big screen Garmin which requires panel space and doesn't give you ERSA, DAPs or BOM radar! :) flight planner? Look for that before the year is out. Complete with automatic winds to calculate ground speed, times, etc. The price we are setting now is the price it's going to be. All that new stuff will just become part of it. Going from version 1 to version 2 is the only "paid" upgrade. I put paid in quotes because the way we are going to do it is by using your existing subscription as credit. Say you bought all-in-one for $50 6 months ago, that means you have $25 left in your account. If you now want the VFR package at $75 a year, you can simply upgrade your existing subscription to 3 months worth of VFR. That was just the easiest and fairest way to do it for us and the users. And of course all existing users will also get a 1 month trial of all the new features before deciding to upgrade or not! (we suspect you all will...) Bas.
fly_tornado Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 The android market is growing really fast, you can buy good quality tablets from $200. I was talking to one of your customers a few weeks ago and when I showed him my 7" tablet he thought it was good to have a device that you can hold with one hand and use with the other.
Guest JRMobile Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Mate, you just lost me as a potential customer ----- "In the mean time: just buy an iPad!" :DirtDOG:
Guest jabiru Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 I for one just love the Android 7", and would buy for that! and not the iPad. Regards Shaun.
Thirsty Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 No way I'll buy an Ipad. I guess we'll have to wait for someone else to take the plunge and develop for the Android.
