Bubbleboy Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Hi all.....Wayne Mathews from Billabong Aviation located at Gunnedah Airport, with the support of Gunnedah Aero Club, is holding a Flyin weekend on the 25th and 26th June 2011. Wayne is passionate about establishing a RAA flight training facility at Gunnedah airport. It would be fantastic if we could get as many different aircraft to fly in and have a social chat with existing pilots and the new prospective pilots that Wayne and the other instructors that will be there conducting Trial introductory Flights (TIF's) with. There will be a sausage sizzle as well. Gunnedah is a beautiful area and provides a nice easy navex. Billabong Aviation is now approved as a flight training facility and those that went to Natfly this year will probably remember Wayne's fantastic forum on aircraft maintenance. Wayne has emailed me a flyer with all the details that I will attempt to upload on here. We have all been chatting lately about how to attract new RAA pilots so I hope as many as possible can flyin and give their support. Bubbleboy Posted June 13, 2011 Author Posted June 13, 2011 Hi Dexter....call Wayne to clarify the details but im sure it is flexible. Its not an Airshow as far as im aware so folk will just need to slot in as we normally do. Its important we try and support these events as this is how we get new people involved and what better way than to drool over a variety of planes. Im talking Wayne through posting on here as I better not call him an old computer illiterate fart as he will beat me up but hes still feeling his way around this site. Scotty
fly_tornado Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 most newbies to flying wont know what a TIF is. You need to remove the jargon if you want people to understand what you are talking about. Probably wouldn't hurt to have some info packs ready for the day.

Bubbleboy Posted June 13, 2011 Author Posted June 13, 2011 FLY!...I believe its more important to have where and when it is as the heading. If its causing you that much stress mate, delete it from you list of events. Most people on here already fly so that is why im targeting it as a flyin more than a "Learn to fly" event for the folk on here. Wayne has stated he is advertising extensively in the local papers and radio etc which is where a lot of the newbies will come from. I have nothing to do with the organisation of it. Wayne dropped me an email notifying me of it and I thought it would be a fantastic opportunity for fellow flyers to get together on a day trip. Nothing more, nothing less. Call Wayne if you would like him to change the whole organisation of it...lol! Scotty
fly_tornado Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Not critisin', just saying... keep it simple, human beings have evolved over millions of commercial breaks to ignore advertising. If some one wanted to sell me a TIF or an Ab Initio, I have to know what they are on about first. Your first post said "Wayne is passionate about establishing a RAA flight training facility at Gunnedah airport." and now you say its not that big a deal. Nothing on the flyer about it being a fly in either. just sayin'

Bubbleboy Posted June 13, 2011 Author Posted June 13, 2011 Thanks Dexter...I received a personal email from Wayne letting me know its on so hadnt seen that one. Thanks mate! If you guys go will it be the Saturday or Sunday? Scotty
Bubbleboy Posted June 13, 2011 Author Posted June 13, 2011 Sounds like a good plan Dexter! I just spoke with Wayne on the phone and its really going to be something if it all goes to plan. Will be great to see everyone. At this stage im looking at going Saturday but again the weather will determine that. Scotty
Wayne T Mathews Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Hi Guys, Thanks for the support. And a special thanks to Scotty for talking this "Old computer illiterate fart" through what it's taken me to get on and say thank you. The 8;00 AM timeline wasn't meant as any sort of deadline, Dexter. It was Susan's way of letting people know we'll be kicking off and getting busy at that time. What we're planning - oh dear, I can't find the spell check, and double letters always confuz me. - Anyway, what we're planning is to have a briefing for the pilots and ground crew before we start engines at 8:00 AM. If we get this right, we're hoping for a movement at GDH (not that sort of movement, Matron) every 2 - 4 minutes. Which won't be a problem so long as everybody is on the same page and nobody tries to be a cowboy. Standard radio calls, circuit departures, and arivals, Moriarty. Standard radio calls, circuit departures, and arrivals. Keep the sunny side up. Wayne.

Wayne T Mathews Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Wayne, looks like Weatherzone is going to look after you. Looks really great here & there on Saturday & great there on Sunday as well. Talking early showers for us on Sunday, so just as well as my plan is to go up on Saturday. Prob won't get there till 9.30 though depending if we have fog. Look forward to catching up with Scotty (Bubbleboy) & Lyle (Old Koorelah) & anyone else going.Cheers Dexter I'm looking forward to meeting you Dexter. Hopefully there'll be traffic in the circuit when you get here, but I can't imagine that'll fuss you blokes from the Hunter. Weather wise, once this front that's blowing over us now clears, it looks like we're in for frosty mornings and sunny days with temps reaching 20 for a week or so. Looking goood! Keep the sunny side up, Wayne.
deadstick Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 Thanks for the hospitality Wayne, nice to meet you and hope tomorrow goes well.
Bubbleboy Posted June 25, 2011 Author Posted June 25, 2011 Hi all....Gunnedah put on the most amazing weather for the first day of the Trial Introductory Flight weekend. There were various different disciplines at the airport from Gyrocopters to Warbirds to Gliders to Cubs to all sorts of RAA and GA aircraft. The day had a really relaxed feeling about it and there were flights conducted all day. The Scouts put on a great BBQ and I got to meet Dexter and Old Koreelah from the forum as well as a few other guys. I snapped a few photos which I will upload here. At one stage in the afternoon there was a queue of planes at the holding point including a King Air Ambulance, Stearman Biplane, J3 Cub, Yak52, Jabiru, Trike and a Gyro! Dexter took me for a fly in his Zephyr and what a great plane he has there! It was fantastic to be around like minded folk and get in the air again. My 11 year old Son went for a fly with Wayne in his Cub. Wayne was very generous in what he gave today. There was a good turnout from Scone and a few others who traveled from Nowra I believe. Its on again tomorrow so if you feel like a nice trip, im sure Wayne and the guys will welcome you. Weather is supposed to be the same. Scotty 2
deadstick Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Hey dex, have to agree on the steak, the food alone was worth the trip! Lol
Bubbleboy Posted June 26, 2011 Author Posted June 26, 2011 Yes was a great day Scotty & nice to finally meet you. Couldn't help offering you a flight, you just looked like you needed a fix! ... Hi Dexter...crikey I always need a flying fix and it was bliss to be up there again! Its been a while... Scotty
robinsm Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Wow, looks like a great day. The Stearman and the Xair (mighty aircraft both) were obviously the standout aircraft of the day . Seriously, all of the photos are great. Cheers Maynard
