Garry Morgan Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 A new project is under way a 18m span motor glider, this has a 6 piece wing, we will remove the outer panel which will be 1.5m shorter span than the sierra, so it can be placed into a hangar with out taking up to much space, one man can rig and derig the aircraft. It is 2 place side by side, all metal construction, powered by a 80hp rotax and cruise 90kts, the wing loading solo will be 34kg and max load 43kg per sq m.
Guernsey Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 Now that sounds exciting Gary,so will the next project after that be a Sierra Glider Combination where we can add different length wing end sections and convert to a Glider or a Sierra.....the mind boggles. Good on ya Gary.
Guernsey Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 Hi Gary, I was talking to a couple of people at Gawler last bweek and mentioned this Glider, do you have any more details or pictures? Alan Marriette.
Garry Morgan Posted July 24, 2011 Author Posted July 24, 2011 The glider name will be Morgan, it will be a lot longer than the Sierra about 1.8m. The wing is a new design due to the much higher bending load, and wing thickness starts at 15% at the first join it is 11%, and at the tip it will be 18%, this is typical of most new gliders to reduce the amount of wash out, and improve handling at low speed, and keep the wing efficent. We have a 912ul motor to go in it ,which will give a 90kts cruise.Alan I will have a drawing out soon.we have made a canopy with a much lower curve, this we made out of a 3m long bubble .
Guernsey Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Thanks Gary for the information, I like the fact that you are calling it a ' MORGAN ' rather than a name without the Morgan in it. When flying and giving radio calls I refuse to call it 'Sierra 7807', I always say ' Morgan Sierra 7807 ' One day we may have a squadron of your different aircraft doing a fly-past at Natfly and we will be known as THE FLYING MORGANS> Alan Marriette. Squadron Leader.
