Hildy Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Have just heard from reliable source that Phil's back is broken in 3 places & is in John Hunter Hospital, Newcastle. (Though I'd be surprised if he isn't in the Spinal Unit at RNS Sydney) It also appears correct that the Pitts is totalled as per news story in MM's post above.Let's hope he has a speedy & full recovery. Phil is being looked after by an excellent spinal surgeon in Newcastle who is also a pilot. He is in good hands.
Wayne T Mathews Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 That is good to hear. We need great pilot trainers like Phil to help the rest of us keep safe. Hear, hear!
flying dog Posted July 4, 2011 Author Posted July 4, 2011 Ok, here is some "news": Dear Members, As most of you are aware long time AAC Member Phil Unicomb had and aeroplane accident at Baraba a few weeks ago. Since the accident Phil has been in Newcastle Private Hospital. He has undergone back surgery on one of three broken vertebra. The operation was successful and Phil is expected to make a full recovery. Sometimes it is not what you know but who you know with our good friend Rob Kuru being a back specialist in Newcastle. Phil has been walking with the help of a walking frame and has started fisio in the pool. To help Phil make a speedy recovery we are having a social event at the Royal Newcastle Aeroclub Social Club. This event will be held on the Saturday night 23rd July starting at approx 5pm. We will be auctioning a ride in the Grumman Avenger as well as a ride in the CAC Wirraway. There will be several other prizes on the night worthwhile. The entry will be $30 per person. To make it worthwhile travelling to Maitland to attend the function, Maxx G Aerobatics is holding an Aerobatics Training Weekend to take place at Royal Newcastle Aeroclub on the 23rd and 24th of July. Glenn Graham and Myself will be available for all levels of critique over the weekend. All are welcome to attend. We will be operating from the Action Aerobatics Hanger at RNAC. Hangerage will be available. BP fuel is available. Can you let me know by phone or email if you plan on attending. We look forward to catching up with you on the 23rd July. Kind Regards, Paul Bennet Maxx G Aerobatics Paul Bennet Airshows Sky Ace Airshows Mob 0425292391 www.maxxgaerobatics.com.au
djpacro Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 It would be good to catch up and it is in my diary but I don't yet have a pass-out and, as some of you know, I get either bored or scared after an hour of cross-country.
Guest ozzie Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Yeswith RNAC just 10 minutes down the road, it would be good to have been able to catch up. But i depart for Oshkosh on Thursday. Shame as there will be quite a few aviation identities there due to Phil's popularity. Have a good time. Seems a lot of flying goes on in the valley but not much socialising of late. ozzie
Guest ozzie Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 I was driving into Rutherford this afternoon and as i was approaching the airport i saw a yellow Tiger Moth doing a fine set of low level aeros, by the time i pulled in and got my camera out it had landed and the pilot was Phil Unicum, looks like he has recovered well from the accident and is enjoying his flying once again.
Guest Maj Millard Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 Good to hear Ozzie, he probabily knows flying is one of the greatest theropies anyway, which is why he is back into it..........................................................Maj...
facthunter Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 Many of us rely on a goal to aim for. You have to keep motivated. Good luck Phil. OME might be onto something in his last post. Maybe Phil will confirm it..Nev
David Isaac Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 Phil has taken up the CFI role at Royal Newcastle Aero Club. Great man for the job, Royal Newcastle now have a top CFI.
Guest ozzie Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 Yes he has taken over from me old mate Anthony Moore who is on long service leave. When i get settled in up there full time and business is up and running i'll be spending more time there and at Luskintyre. Dave, I need to find some cheap hanger space for the Lazair so i can start on the electric conversion next year, is there any one at Lusk who can help?
David Isaac Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 Lets catch up over the break Steve, I intend to spend some time at Luskintyre and Shirley is working while I am on holidays.
