Why couldn't they have landed yesterday?? 20 July 1969 - first man on the moon - 20 July - Last shuttle landing. Would have made it easier to remember :)

Yep they must have been aiming for that I reckon. Pretty cool though. I lived in teh states in the mid 70's and remember seeing the gliding tests of the "dummy" shuttle. I've now seen the entire program from beginning to end - amazing!

Thirsty, having read the book Dark Mission by Richard C. Hoagland, I suspect there would be a reason for that, just as there has been a history of very interesting timings throughout many previous missions. Fascinating reading.
