The ATSB has just published a report of an R22 crash which has highlighted an issue with programmable ELTs.

Although alerting on 121.5MHz, it failed to do so on 406MHz, due to incorrect programming. Apparently there was only a subtle indication of the problem and ATSB will devote a future safety article to this subject. In the interim, anyone using a programmable ELT should familiarize themselves with the procedure for checking correct functioning of their unit.
