I can't find the recent string which included discussion of high speed rail.

As it took us a century or so to get around to building a single track to Darwin, we'd be more likely to ask Kathy Freeman to start an Australian Royal Family than build an HST system.

Meanwhile over the water, things are moving a tad faster:

The conclusion of the article reads:

"And the engineering challenge? Tunneling deep under the sea and traversing Big Diomede and Little Diomede Islands in some of the world's most remote and inhospitable territory? That task will be a walk in the park compared to tunneling into financiers' pockets and through politicians' power plays."

But why is the thread titled "Airspace to be cleared for Rec use only" ?

Everything else will travel by rail 004_oh_yeah.gif.82b3078adb230b2d9519fd79c5873d7f.gif

Wow....what a difficult choice, 5600kms by plane or 17,000kms by train.... Man you would really have to hate planes big time to contemplate that alternate......

Assuming NSW train speed max 80kmhr with stops of 5min every hr. =73km/hr = 231 hrs for that trip = approx 10days........Nice scenery = Im over it by end of day 1

Hmm.... just got back from Alaska. There was a 5.3 quake while I was there, no big deal as it happens in Alaska all the time apparently (only a big deal when it happens on the east coast where the MSM offices are).

So you would need a quake-proof tunnel in order to open this trade route with the Mafia... er Russian government.
