The subject was Road Safety and Learner Drivers... It was a good opportunity to give Recreational Flying in Australia a plug.

Hi Pud,

 

I basically pointed out that I did 45 odd hours to get my Recreational Pilots License (I didn't use the word certificate-figured with only a few minutes it was best not to confuse things!)... And that statistically low hour pilots are not a major safety factor in Australian Aviation... Conclusion- Learner Drivers needing several hundred hours in their logbooks to achieve their license was obviously meaningless if they are just being handed down the same bad habits displayed by the people training them.

I don't believe so... It got me thinking. This is an issue that is often played up in the media... it seems to get a lot of attention. Every time it it raised there is a perfect opportunity to promote Recreational Flying based upon the logic I applied above.

However, I can picture a few of the listeners recoiling in horror at the prospect of a person with less hours than an L plate driver flying an aircraft over the top of them. *sigh*
