Thirsty Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 A future career in flying helicopters - haha. If you've got about $80K to spend and a couple of years out in the sticks doesn't worry you maybe! I've done a fair bit of flying helicopters and it is heaps of fun but as a career it's really for the very determined or the rich.
winsor68 Posted September 7, 2011 Author Posted September 7, 2011 In my experience it takes a special kind of pilot to commit to a lifetime of Chopper flying... Ironically I have only been up in one chopper... happily it was a proper one (in my opinion) a Bell47. I was fortunate that it was with a mustering pilot called Shultzy in the Isa after it had had a refurbishment done... so he took it out around Lake Moondara and put it through its paces. Amazing stuff!!!
eightyknots Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 I have also been in a chopper once: a Hughes 500D. It was a great experience. Quote from the video "You know... helicopter lessons are not all that expensive"
av8vfr Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 I have been the LH seat in a RAN Squirrel out of Wagga... All good until we went tactical and flying below tree-top levels... "Where are those power lines????" Talk about pucker factor lol...
