Barefootpilot Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 The Catalina foundation in conjunction with the Seaplane Pilots Association Australia will be holding the Catalina Festival on the 5th of November at Rathmines – Lake Macquarie. This year will be the Fifth annual Catalina Festival and splash-in held to raise money to bring VH-CAT a PBY Catalina back into the air. There will be aircraft displays each hour including - The RAAF Roulettes and HARS PBY Catalina plus seaplane joy flights in the good old DHC-2 Beaver. Show us your Seaplane skills! As part of the Catalina foundation splash in at Rathmines on the 5th of November, a Seaplane flying competition will be held. Forced landing, spot landing and mooring accuracy being judge with prizes for the winner. Don't have your own Seaplanes? No problem! A C-180 and DHC-2 will be available for use. Prizes for best presented aircraft. Hope to see some of you at Rathmines.

The 5th of November is less than two weeks away now and the final touch’s are being put together for the festival and splash-in. This year looks bigger and better than the last with more activities more flying and more fun planned. The Roulettes will flying a display at approximately 1330 and then returning to the festival to sign autographs and talk with the public plus we will have the Tiger Moth fly past, aerobatics and lots more scheduled all day. Scenic flights will also be available in a DHC-2 Beaver from 10am. Flying Competition As part of the splash in a spot landing and mooring accuracy competition will be held starting at 1115 (registration will open at 10:00 and close at 11:00) Prizes for accuracy will be awarded and best presented aircraft. Phil Dulhunty will provide his C-180 and Sydney Seaplanes will have a DHC-2 Beaver available for use for the competition (there will be a currency requirement for aircraft hire - please contact Adam for Details) There will also be prizes for best presented aircraft. Entry for the competition will be $25 and all money will go to the Catalina foundation. I have had no requests for fuel so there will be limited amounts available. If you plan on attending please reply with some details so that we can make sure we have enough fuel/space for you and your aircraft.
