Hi Ed, thanks for your contribution, it is nice to see at least one of our Board Members supporting this site in a positive way. I believe that if there is something positive or exciting that comes out of Board decisions we should highlight that on this forum, however, if it is of a negative or critical nature then we should be contacting our Board Representative and not airing it on this site, unless of course Ian does not want us to mention any Raaus business whatsoever.

Alan, you have it correct, in a nutshell, and in the past I had been asked many times by Board Members and previous CEOs etc to post things, create polls etc on their behalf, but I won't be doing that any more...lets keep the site Governing Body independent unless there is a special announcement (for safety or educational reasons only) or there is something positive or exciting...this is all sounding great and what I have been wanting for a long time but each time I wanted to change I was convinced by others to keep it political

I don't wish to sound negative, but that is all the positive smilies I could find,

Positive Alan.

I don't know what most people on the site are looking for. I was surprised how little interest there was in my trip to Reno, Its one of the top avication destinations.

Unfortuantely the disaster overwhelmed your reports. I started reaing them from teh beginning, but your thread got lost in all the otehr matters.

Yes, it should have been a wow of a trip, and you are very kind to have taken the time to think of the rest of us and posted what you did. Maybe next time all your trip posts will be about happy things.

I’ll add to the list Ian, politics is for politicians, like the new direction, back to the beginning, let the others play elsewhere !

Ian....I have found myself visiting this site less often over the last few months. It seems there was a few who were just stirring up rubbish all the time. I guess the old saying "Never argue with idiots as they will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience". Im not into politics as I dont like liars. Lets get on with building / flying and do what we originally came here for.

It's your site Ian so whatever you want to do with it is certainly no problem for me! There is no reason someone who is interested in the politics can't setup a especially site for it. It is rather easy to get one started!

Well I was interested and read your updates and looked at the photos you posted. Thanks FT. There may also have been plenty who looked but did not post. There was after all 2,081 views of your thread. I wouldn't call that not much interest.

The Events, Trips and Flyins forum has been strengthened and moved up the forums list for this reason so how about it folks, did you go for a fly on the weekend, just post "I went for a fly in a X and did..."...tell us about it, join in, everyone wants to hear about what we fly and when we fly it...

Interesting, Ian.

I had not thought that the title encouraged posts of individuals flights that were not associated with an "Event', "Fly-in" or some "Trip". If you want posts about "I just went for a local flight" in there, perhaps the description needs some modification to include "interesting flights" or just "flights", as you apparently intend.

I had an interesting flight a week ago, but was waiting till I get to edit the video before posting, and had not contemplated posting it in the "Events, Trips and Fly-ins" forum.

Is that better now?

Yep. That encourages more posts of individuals experiences. It now looks like a home for the post I was contemplating, rather than in "General". :-)

Hmmmm - Just stumbled into this thread after a few days away.. I guess this answers my question in an earlier thread about the post RAAus Board meeting thread being removed.. So you can remove that question / thread, Ian.

But I have another question, Ian: Feedback by Board members on this forum is useful to us all - as is (mostly) the observations that some people make relating to that feedback.. But inevitably that feedback and commentary will in some instances be considered 'political'. So is there not a place for that type of discussion anymore? And, if there is, how do you arbitrate on what is acceptable communications and what is unacceptably 'political' commentary?

Chris, please read post #28 above..."a special announcement (for safety or educational reasons only) or there is something positive or exciting" can be posted in the General Discussion forum but we can't let the site sink back into the way it has been especially over the last 12 months...there will no doubt be a happy medium that we will need to reach but that unfortunately be by trial and error. I have gone in hard at first and the moderators will then watch slowly and carefully to see how far we can back off to ascertain where the line is that we are not to cross again...hope this helps

Thanks Ian, for your decision and action. (I was thinking maybe I should request that a thread have a "Never bother to tell me about updates to this thread" function so I could use it for all the politically-based content recently)

Well done!

There is already a very simple function there Peter. If you just scroll up to the beginning of this thread, in the top RH corner you will see a message "Unsubscribe from this thread"

Click that and you'll get no more messages about updates - you've switched off.

Thanks Turbz, will that also stop the thread appearing in the "What's New" list?

No it doesn't mate

In which case, you just don't click on that thread, just as I don't click on a thread entitled "Bought a Bantam with the left wheel missing" (not that there's anything wrong with Bantams.)

But I must admit some bizarre force just forces my fingers across the keyboard and it seems to click itself, and before you know it I'm engrossed in photos of rust and chicken dung and history.

My take on the removal of politics after 5 days is for the first time in a couple of years I am excited about the site, about where it can go from here, the great community that can be created, the resources, tools, help, friendships and assistance that can be generated all in a friendly environment on the passion of flying for fun...giving a new meaning that this site has not seen for several years to the word "Recreation".

I am happy and I should have done this some time ago when I first realised the site was on a path to destruction of its objectives.

There are some great things coming, a lot of money is being spent and in terms of the site's future, well I paid around $1,800 yesterday for the domain name Recreational Flying .com and it is registered for the next 10 years so there is 10 more years of life...guaranteed.

There is a developer in the US that I am paying to create a bridge (software connection) to other software applications that will bring some great tools and resources here for registered members and some other great enhancements that are coming as well...I am finally excited about where the site is going and what it is going to provide everyone.

Offcourse you can still discuss political aspects in terms of the governing bodies but based on "a special announcement (for safety or educational reasons only) or there is something positive or exciting" and in the General Discussion forum. Such things as RAAus Notices and Announcements, Minutes etc, but in a manner that it is informative and the minute that a thread strays from the "informative" direction, the moderators will step in and remove every post that has strayed, without question. There will be a line that we will find that will suit everyone and we will work towards that as going towards it is better, and easier, then trying to pull back from something to it.

It has only been 5 days and I am happy with the direction the site is taking from here and the future is already looking bright...thanks to those for their understanding.

The true character of a person can be seen when they have to make hard decisions...the true character of a person that is effected by the hard decisions, is always seen by the actions that they take!

Gee Whiz Ian, I'm in trouble!! I hate to be negative but this thread is causing problems and could result in a divorce:yikes:.

In the last few days whenever I have read this thread my wife has spotted me bouncing up and down with excitement on my computer chair and she thinks that I am watching Porno Movies. In an effort to save my marriage I have had to give up taking my daily Viagra tablets and take two Valium ones instead.!!!109_groan.gif.66f71fc85b2fabe1695703d67c904c24.gif 008_roflmao.gif.692a1fa1bc264885482c2a384583e343.gif.

I think there would have been a lot of interest in your trip and those sort of posts should be encouraged. I followed your posts but was put off saying anything by the Galloping Ghost accident in case I offended someone.
