How many here fly gliders too?

I haven't been here for ages so just catching up on things.

 

I took up gliding about 3 years ago and currently fly out of Tocumwal.

 

I've learnt plenty in gliders that flying power aircraft never taught me.

I spoke to the people at Gawler and hope to do my first glider flight next week. I'm hoping it will improve my glide approaches....

glide approaches are one thing it will improve, along with flying straight, learning how to use a rudder, steep turns, how to handle rough conditions amongst a myriad of other things.

Last flight for me, last week. A relatively short cross coutry flight, Flowerdale to Glenburn. The same day one of the guys flew from Flowerdale to Koo Wee Rup!]

You obviously knew you were very close to the 4500 step between GBR and the Gap but, seeing you and your buddy in those great photos I'll pay even more attention to the possibility of traffic in the area as I thread my way across the Range there.

We lanch from a hill known as 'Three Sisters', about 1 nm north of the Flowerdale pub - which coicidentally is a popular landing area. I flew there again on Wednesday but did not get up and away. I ended up driving retrieve for a mate who broke the site record, landing in Warragul.

This week I had the Cheyenne out a few times, yesterday is was pre frontal lift with streeting, David and I took off after less than 5 min of motor we shut it down at 2500'climbed to cloud base about 3k and flew up the street taking a few climbs ,went up the valley to mt george, and then followed another street toward the coast , then did a glide back to taree, it is oftern hard to get a full turn in lift here but the day was one of the best ive had around here. We didnt go that far but for a heavy touring motor glider 1.6hr no motor on the coast is ok in my book.

Sounds like good fun. I'll be great for you in NZ doing the wave and other trips. I remember well when you showed me over the project in late 2013. You have the wings stored in the trailer. Gliding is my main form of flying. Both aerotow and TMG.

 

FLying the club's SF28 Tandem Falke a lot and love it.

 

I have a dream about that SF28.

 

To fly it without canopy and only a windscreen.

I had a good flight today.

 

Winter is here, with snow and short days a,d no heat in the sun. Thermals are out of question, but today I were soaring along a ridge until I hit a wave and could climb well into the TMA of the nearby airport.

Motor gliding is probably the best pastime for Australian conditions. the trouble is it is not permitted unles you are part of the GFA and have a independent operators license which is going to take you two or thre years to get. How come there are no motorized gliders advertised or any aircraft for that matter

Yes Ads touring motor gliders are the way to go.

Ergonomically comfortable, economical to run, very pleasant to fly, good cruising speeds of 90-100kn and a great viewing platform.

Then the bonus of being able to soar when conditions are suitable or when they aren't to be able to shut down at cruise height and glide much of the final leg.

Some TMGs don't soar anywhere near as well as others though.
