dazza 38 Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Right oh Folks. Who is going? Its not far away now.
Tomo Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Hmm that'd be an idea! I'm not sure about it yet, but I reckon if the weather is right, and I'm around it'll be a must do. Be a good run for the 206. If people need a lift maybe I could work something out for you... we could have a pilots day out excursion!
av8vfr Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 From the web site http://www.greateasternflyin.com/: 2012 Great Eastern Cancelled It is with deep regret that the Fly-In committee has had to cancel the 2012 Great Eastern. This is due to: The unusable condition of the Aerodrome as a result of decontamination works being carried out. Recent unexpected financial requirements placed on us. Safety concerns. We are very sorry that this has happened and want to thank you for your support of the Great Eastern. This is only for this year. Having just done a five year DA for the event, which is in the final stages of approval, we’re not going anywhere! We enjoy it all too much and want to see you all in a years time! SO! You are all invited to The Great Eastern Fly-In’s 21st Birthday Bash in January 2013! SEE YOU THERE!

SH&T thats no good.I only read it in the SP mag today, only got the mag today.I guess the wankers in Council are gettting their way then.
Tomo Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Oh, well that puts a spanner in the works just slightly doesn't it! Got plenty of time to get ready for 2013 now.
dazza 38 Posted November 15, 2011 Author Posted November 15, 2011 Seriously, what a waste of a ex WW2 airfield. I know Evans Head is full of dole bludgers and retirees. ****** moderated - language. ********** I am annoyed.Decontamintation works sound like a krock ********* They have had plenty of time to do that.
facthunter Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Don't bother . Apart from the lack of appreciation of history, everything there is covered with salt from the sea spray. Aeroplanes don't last long in that environment. Nev
drifter45 Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 Nev said" everything there is covered with salt from the sea spray. Aeroplanes don't last long in that environment". No worse than Tyagarah it can be managed. Dole bludgers and retirees are not the problem, council is based at Casino. Lots of Evans Head locals wish they were in Ballina Shire. cheers John
dazza 38 Posted November 16, 2011 Author Posted November 16, 2011 What is the latest with the retirement joint that was to be build there ?
drifter45 Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 As far as I know it's going ahead just beside the threshhold of 36. This is the same council that cut a 1/4 off the Casino runway and installed a mobile home park right under the approach to 10. They also allow drag racing on the runway about 4 times a year. Real muppets. cheers John

Ballpoint 246niner Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 I feel for Gai Taylor and her team of volunteers, much has been written on the northern rivers council and the development, and I am on the mailing list of the proposed airpark and if only I heard from them instead of the four hundred spam mails I get every week. Aviation seems to be losing it's hold on a historic airfield at Evans, a shame, as the last fly in was a cracker.
dazza 38 Posted December 21, 2011 Author Posted December 21, 2011 I did read something only last week about the airpark.Apparently a business man has taken over the airpark proposal from the previous people.Apparently the council has not been very helpful in providing the gent with information that he has asked for.
