Guest SAJabiruflyer Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 AeroScene Cruisin’ the Coorong - 20th November 2011 http://www.aeroscene.com.au/event/22-cruisin--the-coorong--.html Aeroscene is a group of Pilots who come together and go on organised flying events. I’ve only just joined so this was my first event. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. Acky drew the short straw and got me as his Navigator. Up at oh-dark-hundred, the lovely wife “volunteered” to drive me from home to Murray Bridge, stopping in at YGWA (Goolwa) to pickup another pilot (Brian) on the way. We got the "go" at 0630hrs, which was good as we were already on the way. Arriving at Murray Bridge just before 8am, the crew from Murray Bridge Light Aircraft Flying School (http://mblafs.com.au/) had breakfast on the go. Some planes from the school were going on the trip, and others were showing up in circuit from other airfields like Parafield and Gawler. It was great to meet fellow forumite Guernsey, who is a truly nice man with a great sense of humor, and see a diverse number of Aircraft – Jabiru’s, Morgan Sierra, Robinson R44 Helo, RV-6 (my mate Brian got the Pax seat in this lovely aircraft), Bas in his SportStar, among others. After an excellent briefing and some departure hints, we took off and commenced flying the course. Acky and I had no problems finding our first and second waypoints, and then it was IFR to Bordertown. We planned on doing some touch n go’s but with a 20kt crosswind being well over the limit for the Jabiru 170, we decided discretion was the better part of valour and headed off to find Salt Creek. This proved the most difficult leg, with not many recognisable landmarks, so it was follow the compass heading and see where we ended up. The wind must have been stronger than expected (of course) because by the end of the Bordertown – Salt Creek leg we were about 5 miles south east of Salt Creek. Then it was a lovely scenic flight up the Coorong, with a little hiccup where we had the engine cough on us during the commencement of a climb, followed by landing at Goolwa. A great BBQ Lunch was put on by Gary and the girls with the Assured Home Loans BBQ Trailer (http://www.assuredfoundation.com.au/) . A debrief in the Pilot’s Lounge at Goolwa (http://www.goolwaairport.com.au/) and it was time to depart for home. Thanks to all involved for making it a great day!
Guest SAJabiruflyer Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Videos from the day. Apologies for my poor film-making ability. Might need Tomo to give me some tips
Tomo Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Good stuff Saj!! I can't give you much advice on videos really... just use a camera, and a Macbook....
Guernsey Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Nothing wrong with the videos, after all it was a bit turbulent. A good day out that was well organised. Kevin and I had a ball. . Alan Marriette.
Acky Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 It was a great day, dodging a rain shower or 2 just adds to the adventure!! Even got treated to some impressive Aeros from a Pitts when i got back to Murray Bridge. Always great to watch!
J170 Owner Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Thanks for the pictures and videos, they were good. I was going to take part in the days activities but the family gathering took priority.

Lol a Macbook, wash your mouth out with soap Tomo. . Although in all seriousness, in my job my clients who own Macs very rarely need help, they're a good bit of kit!. I have been told of a way to connect a camera to the wing brace, will see what I can come up with in the shed. Vibration is probably a concern too. Another project to work on!

MrH Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Thanks for sharing the story, pics & the vids were great - Macbook or PC it doesn't really matter, I have both & both talk themselves up. Macs look pretty & are easy to get ;) - PC's you have to get to know them first , then they will do what ever you want :) Cheers H
Acky Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Hey SAJ.... the iPad with ozrunways was in my flight bag.... but in the spirit of the exercise, I didn't get it out!
Guest SAJabiruflyer Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 Hey SAJ.... the iPad with ozrunways was in my flight bag.... but in the spirit of the exercise, I didn't get it out! Ha Ha Acky, we did alright without it! In fact, i'd say that having a fellow pilot as a Pax is about perfect. Two trained people to share the duties :)
Gnarly Gnu Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 Looks like y'all had a great time! Which Jab was a-coffin?
Acky Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 Looks like y'all had a great time! Which Jab was a-coffin? Hey Gnu, the 170, but it's been identified and sorted :)
Guernsey Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 I wonder if that was the Jab that a certain helicopter pilot claimed to be overtaking us from above when he mistakenly thought it was our Morgan Sierra. Appart from the visual observation, he should have known that his helicopter could not possibly overtake a Morgan Sierra 6 cyclinder. Sorry Gary...couldn't resist. Alan the Stirrer.

I think I heard some comment to that effect on 123.45 hahaha. It's a nice looking plane :)
Guest SAJabiruflyer Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Hey Gnu, the 170, but it's been identified and sorted :) ..unlike the two pilots who are probably still cleaning up the mess
