pete8862 Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 I was driving over the Gateway bridge in Brisbane the other day & noticed the wind socks indicating the wind was coming from the west, next I saw a passenger jet landing from the west with the wind. Is this normal or do they have set time they can land certain ways?? It was blowing about 20 knots. Pete
David Isaac Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Pete, As a simplistic suggestion, the wind on the ground at Brisbane airport was likely different to the Gateway bridge.
eightyknots Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 I have seen this before at Kingsford Smith airport in Sydney and I have wondered the same thing, pete. Someone must have a good explanation :-)
Guernsey Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 He probably thought it would be safer to land down wind at the airport than into wind on the bridge. Couldn't help myself. Alan. 1
