coljones Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 In a brief news item on wednesday(ish) 28 dec, 2011, channel 10 in Sydney reported an ultralight out of fuel situation followed by a crash in the Dubbo region of NSW. Is anyone able to confirm or expand on this incident. Regards Col
Guest extralite Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 I was waterskiing at Lake Burrendong which is very close to the crash site. 2 of the ultralights that were on their way to act as tugs for the Forbes hang gliding competition did a flypast in loose formation at about 1pm ( give or take an hour) over the lake right in front of me as the boat launch. It was good to see them having fun. These are Dragonfly tugs and i could see the big tug pole on each aircraft and they were a similiar colour. The way they were flying would indicate that neither pilot thought fuel was a problem as they were low level (at a legal height though) and following the outline of the dam rather than going direct somewhere. It was reported that there were 5 tugs going to the meet, so these might not have been the incident aircraft but i think the time, place and aircraft colour stacks up unless the incident aircraft was going direct and higher up. There were thunderstorms around too mainly to the south, nothing too major but certainly enough to have to go around if they were in their path. The media report can be read here: http://www.dailyliberal.com.au/news/local/news/general/pilot-suffers-leg-spinal-injuries-in-crash-landing/2404546.aspx Hopefully the pilot has a speedy recovery, i am sure it would have been very frightening for all pilots involved.
