fly_tornado Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Can anyone advise how successful applying automotive tint to polycarbonate wind screens has been? I can't get the polycarbonate in the tint and thickness I want.
Guernsey Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Can anyone advise how successful applying automotive tint to polycarbonate wind screens has been?I can't get the polycarbonate in the tint and thickness I want. You could try Gary Morgan at Morgan Aeroworks as he makes his own screens and has tinted available so he may be able to help with his supplier of tinted polycarbonate. Alan.
Kyle Communications Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 FT Steve Donald got his top cabin cover tinted by "Tintmart" I think it was its a great job would be no difference to do the screen the same. I will be getting mine done for my Savannah next week as well....not the screen but the top cabin cover. When I saw Steves you would swear blind is was tinted polycarb Mark
fly_tornado Posted January 3, 2012 Author Posted January 3, 2012 the tornado screens are pretty thin, currently its got 1.5mm, its scary how much the screen moves when you push it. I can get 3mm tinted but not the 2mm stuff. looking @ the Morgan they wouldn't be using polycarbonate
Kyle Communications Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 The Savannah main screen and cabin top are 1.5 or 2mm polycarb certainly no thicker just get a professional tint place to do it its a lot easier and cheaper
Gundy Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Mark I wanted to do the roof cabin as well. I took it to a precessional tinting shop they wouldn't do it for me. They said it would only fall off as the lexen keeps letting out gases out of the plastic. It would be good if someone on here could confirm this or I'll wait and see how yours and Steve's go. Gundy
Kyle Communications Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Hi Greg Steve's has been done for a couple of months now and still looks perfect. He will probably test fly later this month I will get mine done tomorrow or friday...if it stuffs up well its easy to replace anyway but I will ask them when I go there about it and see what they say as well Mark
Gundy Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 They told me that when it bubbles the tint leaves its glue behind and very hard to remove without scratching the lexen or damaging with solvents. It sounded like a bugger so I didn't bother. I'm going to buy a tinted sheet of lexen cut it up between three of us. Should workout at about $50 each. Gundy
