Flygirltam Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Earlier today I watched a nanchang rego VH-NNJ do a wheels up landing on Rwy 03/L due to gear failure. Pilot & Pax ok. Aircraft now being removed by crane. 1
Studentbiggles Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Hi Tam..............OH NO!!! .............Not one of the young pilots and nanchang that I met at Barossa Air Show !!
facthunter Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 They must have had too much barossa red if nanchang was legless. Nev 2
J170 Owner Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Do they have cameras running when they take passengers for a blast? That would make for some exciting video if they did.
Studentbiggles Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Actually Guys, I did take a dozen bottles down to the event ..................but only for the AWPA girls to enjoy as a thankyou treat we only opened two bottles on the sly inside the tent for all the hard working crew :peepwall: 1
Studentbiggles Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 BTW...................thats me in my avatar sitting outside the tent............. surrounded by the other "Wino's" .............whoops flying friends that weren't flying that day, just enjoying the aviation sights and sounds 1
Guernsey Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Did it really land on it's belly or were the observers under the influence.? Alan.
Flygirltam Posted January 7, 2012 Author Posted January 7, 2012 Hi Tam..............OH NO!!! .............Not one of the young pilots and nanchang that I met at Barossa Air Show !! Hi Alley, No not one of the young guys, not sure if you met 'Wilco', but he was the one flying it, did a damn good job getting it on the ground as we had 22kt Xwind gusting to 30kt. Was holding my breath the whole time he slid along the rwy. the noise was aweful 1
Flygirltam Posted January 7, 2012 Author Posted January 7, 2012 Do they have cameras running when they take passengers for a blast? That would make for some exciting video if they did. They have a video onboard, not sure if it was running, the PAX certainly got his moneys worth today LOL 1
Studentbiggles Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Hey Mr "Spell Check" AKA J170 ......................When us girls see some action on the tarmac.............get the story out there, don't worry about the spelling mistakes 5
Flygirltam Posted January 7, 2012 Author Posted January 7, 2012 There's no e in awful. Aweeefffuuullll sound! I kinda wrote it how I said it lol ' OMG that sounds aweful' hehe 3
Flygirltam Posted January 7, 2012 Author Posted January 7, 2012 Please tell me he remembered to switch the engine off before landing to save it from further damage I believe he shut down & glided the a/c in on short final. Prop looked ok. But I was about 500 mtrs away.
turboplanner Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Hey Mr "Spell Check" AKA J170 ......................When us girls see some action on the tarmac.............get the story out there, don't worry about the spelling mistakes Same with us guys! 1
Chrisso Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 I agree with the pedantic spell checkers although I have noticed that J170 also hates acronyms. ROTFLMAO !!! 1
Neil_S Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 BTW.........thats me ... surrounded by the other "Wino's" .. Hmm - acronyms ...WINO - does that stand for Watching Incoming Nanchang Operations? Cheers Neil 2
turboplanner Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 No, she was the real thing, and we all missed out! 1
djpacro Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Nanchangs are nice however I prefer a Yak52, not so much because of their designed ability to withstand a wheels up landing but it is a plus. I'm one of those pilots who stick to fixed gear aeroplanes anyway. It scares me to pick the gear up after take-off - I would rather roll inverted. 2
Guernsey Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 In the French language an 'E' is often included in the word to signify that it is FEMALE. I rest my case....touche' Alan Marriette. 1
petetheprinta Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 I agree with the pedantic spell checkers although I have noticed that J170 also hates acronyms. ROTFLMAO !!! I agree, no excuse for bad speling! 1
Derby Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Hi all. Stopping the engine is what you do not want to do, that's what i was told when lerning. Rory
