coljones Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 The current regime avoids "human rights" issues, keeps fares high and preserves excess baggage as a nice little earner. I can't see changes being made any time soon. Col:sad angel:
flying dog Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 I'm laughing all the way to the bank. I weigh 40-50 Kg nominal. I don't own scales. (I'm not a fish - sorry.)
Guernsey Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Have you thought about being a business manager on a council? No, but I could start a flying Real Estate Business.
eightyknots Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Here is the relevant newspaper article for your information: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Obese entitled to two airline seats for the price of one, Canadian court rules Canada's airlines must give obese people two seats for the price of one on domestic flights, the country's highest court has ruled. Air Canada failed to show that a 'one-person, one-fare' structure would cause it undue hardship Photo: AP 10:49PM GMT 20 Nov 2008 The supreme court declined to hear an appeal by Air Canada and WestJet, the country's two largest airlines, on a January 2008 decision by the Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA), which gave the airlines a year to implement the policy after they failed to show that a "one-person, one-fare" structure would cause undue hardship. By convention, the court gave no reason for declining to hear the case. What remains unresolved is when exactly obesity constitutes a disability. The CTA said airlines must develop procedures to assess eligibility, adding that free seats need not be awarded to overweight people who are merely uncomfortable in a single seat. The agency recommended that the airlines adopt a policy used by the American carrier Southwest Airlines, which stipulates that people who are too big to lower the armrest should be given an extra seat. The airlines had lost an appeal at the federal court of appeal in May and had sought to launch a fresh appeal at the supreme court. The "one-person, one fare" policy already exists on other types of public transport, including buses, trains and ferries. The new policy will be in effect from Jan 2009. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Litespeed Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 As a lite weight 77kg , 173cm, prolific low carb beer consumer..............bugger em. We pay big time health costs for their excess baggage. I am harassed as a smoker and drinker and taxed to extreme. Why should I gladly accept their choices are free to them and paid by me? I say any excess body parts over the seat allowable area are excised by the centre arm rest guillotine and jettisoned. And at the end- weight is a killer of performance and humans I suggest a crash diet................. You are fat and crash land on a deserted island with minimal food and water you survive 40 days.............welcome to the new and improved you. Maybe we could develop a new weight loss/passenger program called" Fat Ass to Health" Remember weight is hated by physics
eightyknots Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Remember weight is hated by physics Sorry Litespeed, I cannot agree. Albert Einstein came up with the profound formula e = mc2 [2 here means squared]. m stands for mass. Therefore, physics "likes" mass (weight)! ...and to make you really happy, litespeed, the above formula also praises the speed of light
