djpacro Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 From AvWeb recently. One thing the light sport aircraft industry doesn't have much of is biplanes and aerobats. But the F12 Comet is both. At the Sport Aivation Expo in Sebring, AVweb talked to Mike Hansen of Hansen Air Group about this German-designed East European import. Besides being the rare aerobatic LSA, it will soon be getting Lycoming's new AEIO-233, a fully aerobatic powerplant. 2 1
Tomo Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Gotta say the Germans do design pretty neat aircraft.
Piet Fil Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Love it ..... but easily outside my budget (legally!)
Guest Maj Millard Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Looks good Dj....should be light and hopefully strong........I have witnessed some pretty good 'gentlemans' aerobatics' on occasions !......................Maj...
dazza 38 Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 I have been following this aircraft for a while. It is interesting that the USA importers will not aerobat the aircraft (even positive G maneuvers) with the 912, because Rotax does not approve any aerobatics with their 912 engine. Hence that is why they are going to fit in the Lycoming engine.Apparently it has a aft C of G with the Rotax 912 fitted with out the chute, which from memory is just behind the firewall. With the heavier AEIO-233 they say its perfect, with no chute install. (This information is from memory, I saw it on another video a few months ago). 1

Guest SAJabiruflyer Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Can they do Aerobatics in LSA's in the US?? *legally
Guest Howard Hughes Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 In the USA there isn't much that is off limits! I don't know for sure but I would expect they could.
djpacro Posted January 31, 2013 Author Posted January 31, 2013 LSA's in the USA may do aerobatics. Old aircraft may be reclassified as LSA's if they conform. The USA LSA rules are more sensible than ours. USA holders of Sport Pilot Certificates and Recreational Pilot Certificates may do aerobatics. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pilot_certification_in_the_United_States Most aviation in the USA is fairly sensible. 1
djpacro Posted February 11, 2013 Author Posted February 11, 2013 Just noticed an ad for the FK12 in the Feb issue of Sport Pilot. Comet aerobatic bi-plane ... Rotax power for fuel economy or Lycoming for aerobatics ... $129,000
Guest Maj Millard Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 You going to buy one Dj ????......................................Maj...
djpacro Posted February 12, 2013 Author Posted February 12, 2013 I wouldn't consider it unless I moved to the USA where I could aerobat it. Here, I am happy with my Pitts.
Gforce Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Can RAA registered aircraft do Aeros in Australia provided you have the training ?
thommo Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 I wouldn't consider it unless I moved to the USA where I could aerobat it. Here, I am happy with my Pitts. Do you have a Pitts?
djpacro Posted May 9, 2013 Author Posted May 9, 2013 Do you have a Pitts? I hope to get it to Watts Bridge soon.
shu77 Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 I have to say this is probably at the top of my list at the moment, only a 544Kg MTOW in Aus, but light weight enough that you can still fit 2x 100kg balast bags and a full tank of fuel. A really neat design, I'm hoping we see one come by the club soon.
facthunter Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 It's been around for a while (1994) Ticks a lot of boxes, ( Carbon main spars, steel and Al tube fuselage construction) +9 /-3.5. search as Funk FK 12. Nev
thommo Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Down south. May need a ferry pilot. Do you want to sell the Pitts?
