Tomo Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Pretty chilling (pun not intended!) recording. 1
J170 Owner Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 I am convinced some pilots deliberately put on weird, hard to understand accents with some strange, deluded idea they sound 'cool'. I even knew a guy once (not a pilot) that used an American accent whenever he used a two-way radio.
alf jessup Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Yep, makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck. Good outcome though.
Guernsey Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 I am convinced some pilots deliberately put on weird, hard to understand accents with some strange, deluded idea they sound 'cool'. I even knew a guy once (not a pilot) that used an American accent whenever he used a two-way radio. I have purchased several hand held radios over the years on Ebay and have found that the accent transmitted depends on where the radio was shipped from. ie China...a chinese accent...America...an american accent, so if you should hear one of my transmissions around Gawler with a very 'Posh Accent' it will be on the radio I bought from England. For obvious reasons do not buy one from China....you have been warned!!! Alan. 2
J170 Owner Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Struth! Didn't think of that. (The accent transmitted depends on where the radio was purchased).
winsor68 Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 That was chilling... they descended soooooo quick...
HeadInTheClouds Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Type aircraft Tomo ?? Possibly this one? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_MU-2
av8vfr Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 I had a friend that flew MU-2 and he said quote " they were great as long as they never entered icing" They were lucky dudes on this flight.
Guest Maj Millard Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Oh yes Mu-2 meatwagon...I'm familiar...............not a lot of wing there, especially with ice on it !
Guest ozzie Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 A couple were lost here due to icing. but it did not ice up on the wings. the ice collected on the underside of the aft fuselage causing massive aft CoG.
Guest Howard Hughes Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Oh yes Mu-2 meatwagon...I'm familiar...............not a lot of wing there, especially with ice on it ! About as aerodynamic as a house brick and no ailerons either, if you wanna turn, just dump the little bit of lift you do have! One of my all time favourite aeroplanes, but as someone said to me once "that's because you've never flown one".
Kyle Communications Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 The nick mane for the MU2 is "the widow maker"...quite a few have come to grief in this country....very scary audio especially when he said decending at 4000 ft a minute
Dieselten Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 The MU-2 is a propeller-driven aircraft with near-jet performance - and that includes the glide-angle of a jet with the engine out as well. These guys were very, very lucky.
facthunter Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 What do you mean the glide angle of a jet? They are pretty clean. You get 100 NM from FL330. Work out that glide angle. Nev
