ayavner Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 G'day, just joining up. I am just beginning (5 hours in) my progress towards my RA-Aus license, and found this great site. Look forward to sponging as much info as I can, and one day hopefully being able to share some myself! A bit about myself, I am living in Wentworthville NSW after moving here from the US a year and a half ago. I actually have my Oz citizenship as well. I served as a Crew Chief in the US Air Force on EC135 (b707) aircraft, but that was over 20 years ago and I am just now rediscovering my fascination with Aviation. I am learning in a sweet little Tecnam low-wing p96, but think i would like a KR2 or similar when the time comes. I am married, 3 girls (all grown) and enjoy learning to fly, playing and building acoustic guitars, woodworking, camping/travel, and cooking among other things. nice to meet everyone! cheers, Adam
Gnarly Gnu Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Welcome Adam, sounds like you're having a lot of fun!
farri Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Hello Adam and . You`ve told us a bit about yourself and I`m impressed. If you want to see a bit about me, go here. http://www.recreationalflying.com/useralbums/memories.30/view Cheers, Frank.
ayavner Posted February 13, 2012 Author Posted February 13, 2012 Thanks all for the warm welcomes. Great photos Frank - looks like we share guitars and campfires in common! What kind of guitar is that? Looks like a Martin from far off?
fly_tornado Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Hi Adam, i went to Lincoln Ne last year for the airshow and there where a bunch of ec135s, those are the refuelers yes?
Guernsey Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Welcome Ayavner to this site and also to the Land Down Under, it looks as though you will fit nicely into our lifestyle. I can see you building a wooden aircraft, flying around Australia to all of our airfields, camping on the airfield, cooking your own meals, in between building guitars and then playing them around the campfire. Sounds good to me. Alan.
ayavner Posted February 13, 2012 Author Posted February 13, 2012 Hi Adam, i went to Lincoln Ne last year for the airshow and there where a bunch of ec135s, those are the refuelers yes? hey Fly, yup they did refueling and had a massive great antenna spool on the belly which was let out in flight for Airborne Command and Control. Super-duper low frequency, something like a 5 mile long antenna. Kind of pre-AWACs if memory serves. Love those 707s though, kinda miss em... and, Alan - yup that's the plan! :D

Looks like a Martin from far off? Adam, that acoustic belonged to a friend of mine who has since passed away and If I remember correctly, it is a Martin. Frank.
Neil_S Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Hi Adam & If you like camping then it sounds like you will really like going to those "camping under wing" Fly-Ins at some stage in the future..... Cheers Neil
sfGnome Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 I am learning in a sweet little Tecnam low-wing p96 Hi Adam, Where's the Tecnam you're learning on? I didn't know there was one in the Sydney area. p.s. I have a Maton AX5 electric from the early 70's - supposed to be worth a bit now to collectors of such things, but I haven't seen it for years since number 1 son purloined it...
Old Koreelah Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Welcome aboard, mate. You have good company in the Wentworth area; a mate of mine there has a beaut little Jodel D9. Lyle Passfield
farri Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 .I have a Maton AX5 electric from the early 70's Back in the mid sixties, a Maton was my first electric guitar, then an original Fender Stratocaster. Later sold the Fender for next to nothing and now I have a Fender Squire, Strat. Frank.
J170 Owner Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 hey Fly, yup they did refueling and had a massive great antenna spool on the belly which was let out in flight for Airborne Command and Control. Super-duper low frequency, something like a 5 mile long antenna. Kind of pre-AWACs if memory serves. Love those 707s though, kinda miss em...and, Alan - yup that's the plan! :D What were they communicating with, subs?
ayavner Posted February 13, 2012 Author Posted February 13, 2012 Neil - sounds great, that is definitely part of the plan! There is a book I have seen that lists all the rural and unregistered aerodromes, is that a good place to start just for impromptu camping trips? Gnome - its at the Sydney Jabiru flight school in Bankstown. They have that and a couple of Jabs. I didn't realise Maton made electrics! Shows what I know..> J170, I believe so. The idea was it could remain airborne for a long time if necessary, so I am sure there were a number of stations for that. At the time we weren't really made privy to and details, and what I may have known at the time I have since forgotten haha Again thanks all for the welcomes! At the moment I have been studying for the Radio exam, which I understand is required before first solo. That's probably a ways off, but I'll feel like I am making progress if I can at least tick a few boxes. Probably search the forum here later on to see if anyone has any tips on that one. I understand it all, but jeez its dry!

It's never too late to start (but any shortcuts would help). There are mobs of people here who will be able to help. Tell us a little more about your project, such as the aircraft type, and where you are. Lyle
