Well 11 days after rib 1 was out the jig, Rib 6 is in it, glue drying. Its looking like 3-4 ribs per week is achievable, so about nine weeks of ribbing to go. 067_bash.gif.26fb8516c20ce4d7842b820ac15914cf.gif

Rib 18 is in the jig, Rib 17 has the back gussets marked up. glue up tomorrow. The stack of Ribs on the rails is growing slowly but surely. Tomorrow night will be 14 to go. Found that using plastic shot glasses for glue mixing are a great size for the small amounts of glue required per rib. And coffee stirrers are good spreaders.

My cat has just joined me on the office table and is going crazy over the spruce sawdust on my hands, he does this every time I work on a rib. He'll start licking the sawdust off the backs of my hand. Is it just my cat and spruce sawdust??? or does it have the same effect on all animals? taz.gif.c750d78125a77f219b0619b1f23e3e90.gif033_scratching_head.gif.b541836ec2811b6655a8e435f4c1b53a.gif

Perhaps spruce has hallucinogenic properties your cat likes? 020_yes.gif.58d361886eb042a872e78a875908e414.gif

If you know the botanical name you can check the list of psychedelic plants here ~~~~> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_psychedelic_plants

No hullucinogenic properties that I can tell, I'm just going to put it down to the cat being a lovable freak!! 101_thank_you.gif.0bf9113ab8c9fe9c7ebb42709fda3359.gif

Well, KF, as you said in the thread title: A long, low and slow journey. What better way than to share the journey with a companion who takes a close up interest in what you are doing ....unconditionally!

Just placed the order for my fuselage Spruce Phil. Thought I better pull my finger out or you will catch up! Trying to get a price out of Performance Metals for the tube to make the control system but they havent replied. I was going to buy one built from the USA but will make it from scratch I think.

Scotty,Are you getting your spruce through Tom or from somewhere else?

Phil

From Tom. You will find out that the freight cost for anything other than the rib cap strip from the USA will blow you away. Got a quote when I was buying the spruce for the tail. Its prohibitive! It goes on length of the package.

Placed some new photos in the Gallery. They're of the Wing tip ribs and the Root Ribs.

Currently - Rib 31 is in the jig drying, leaving the last rib (Rib 32) to be jigged up tomorrow.

With the extra fiddly bits around the aileron quick connect blocking, I should be in a position to trim all 32 ribs on the router table next weekend and then a final sanding to finish them off. 026_cheers.gif.2a721e51b64009ae39ad1a09d8bf764e.gif

Well all 32 Ribs are complete and have been trimmed on the router table. Just going to spend the evenings after dinner sanding them all over the coming week(s). Then I am going to jig them on the compound mitre saw and trim the nose angle all to the same cut and then sand.

Then after we move house mid June It will be another spruce order and on to the empennage.super_hero.gif.5d50ddb84d4e7e727183b80b4acbc28c.gif Till the next operational pause!

Well, after a bit of project hiatus, I kinda got distracted moving house and building a round yard for our horses.

I finally got around to ordering some spruce from Tom and then today drove up to Newcastle to pick it up. the picture shows the 8' and 10' long 2" thick pieces of spruce. The picture doesnt show the long pieces that were on the roof rack (two 19'x6"x1" and one 16'x7"x1").

Now, after I re-jig the garage tomorrow it will be time to build a bench for empennage construction and then start machining timber to sizes.

Joy o joy, 012_thumb_up.gif.cb3bc51429685855e5e23c55d661406e.gif building time again

Looking good Phil! I laid out my first fuselage side over the weekend and started glueing gussets. Im trying to get the fuselage together over the Xmas break so I can sit in it making Corvair engine noises!

Been busy machining the Empennage timber and laminating the main beams, leading edge and trailing edge. Also rebated the main beams to insert some ply reinforcing where the hinge eyebolts are to go through. Next job will be jigging up the Horizontal Stabiliser and fitting all together before gluing up.

Looks great Phil....I dont want to hijack your thread! I think I have a thread going on here to somewhere! I did some more fuselage floor cross braces today and cut out the 6mm ply floor. Will glue that on next I think. Did a trial fit of the tail wheel too!

Looking good Phil:thumb up:jason

It must feel great to make this milestone. Are you weighing each bit? Very useful practice. Your elevator looks about one kg.

Hi Phil...looking good mate! Keep going with it. Your doing the same as I did. Build the smaller bits first then when the fuselage is built, it goes together pretty quickly. About to take my fuselage off the build table!
