The Fly-in has been cancelled due to the wet weather. There is a layer of silt forming on the runway over the last few years and now when it rains it stays wet and boggy for days.

You don't want to try and take off from that strip when that silt is wet, even in a Drifter you can feel the wheels digging in. After it gets cut up its very bumpy as well.

Entirely understandable and I am not surprised it is unserviceable with the recent wet weather... oh well I just have to overfly enroute back to Boonah from Dalby.

PS Just got this e-mail as I sent notice to Trevor this morning about my attendance...

For the FIRST time since commencing our Clifton Fly Ins in 1982, we have to advise you that our 2012 Clifton Fly In has had to be cancelled due to a flooded airfield. 30 years is not a bad record.

Last night, Wednesday, we had a very local storm that dumped 33 mm of rain on the runway and surroundings, resulting in flood water washing over the runway. This water is now lying pooled on the centre line about half way along the runway and is 50 mm deep.

During the big floods in December 2010, a dam burst upstream of the runway, which has put about 100 mm of silt on the middle point of the strip and changed the water flow. With the continuing wet weather over the past year we have been unable to right the problem. Hopefully we can achieve repairs in the next few months.

As an aside, the strip was in perfect condition and we were all set up ready to go.

Book in your calendar the Clifton Fly In on 9th and 10th March 2013.

See you around. Call in some day.
