I had to get a new main spar angle as one of them got damaged when I brought the kit home last year. I don't have a bandsaw or ally blade for my circular saw so decided to cut the taper with ultra thins on the 100mm grinder. Worked OK & cleaned it all after clamping both angles together with a flap disc, hand sanding & then fine polishing with 600g wet & dry. Everything is done for the spars but I am waiting on the 5/32 straight rivet bit for my air hammer to arrive from Spruce Goose. The spars are easy but I want to get the solid rivets all the same so opted for a proper polished rivet bit rather than whacking each one with a hammer till they look right.

Everyone tells me that canopies can be a s*!% of a job because as soon as you cut the bubble in half it all goes weird shaped so make sure you cut it a lot bigger than you want to start with.

You seem to have put in quite a few extras, beefed up bits & covers etc. Have you kept a tally of the additional weight & likely effect on CofG?

Having a good time thanks Gareth. Might have to get the engine rebuilt as Jabiru believe mine is one of the ones with the circlip issue. L2 can do it while we are away. Aircraft is a joy to fly. I have put off the x country until we get back in November. Trying to get my passenger endorsement so my wife can fly with me. Just trying to really get to know and get comfortable with the Jab.

Hi Gareth

The plane is looking good. Was there a reason for going for metal wing tanks over Garry's fiberglass tanks, and did you make them? Also, did you have trouble routing the aileron cables around the tanks? We did, but perhaps your cable was longer.
