Guest russ.mullins Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Has anyone heard about a plane landing and sinking in Lake Macquarie on Saturday (yesterday 7 March)? My son and his girlfriend were riding around the lake on their bikes and watched a small open cockpit plane (2 occupants) with some water landing pods of some type flying about quite low at Lake Macquarie near Newcastle. A pretty severe southerly was blowing and when the plane tried to land it appeared to bounce and then clipped a wing in the water and sank. Several boats came to the rescue of the occupants but the plane was gone within minutes. I haven't heard any 'official' reports of the accident and I'm curious as to what type of plane it was. I'm guessing an RAA plane with an open cockpit.
