Your thoughts are too general! Some of us think that selected car engines make excellent aircraft power plants, eg the venerable Subaru EA81

Reading about the issues which regularly occur with some "aircraft" engines (and their maintenance costs) confirms our opinion. The Mercedes based engine used in the FK aircraft seen at the last 2 Natflys should also encourage you to look objectively at the technology available in current auto engine conversions.

IIRC - VERY heavy circa 185kg.

Better example would be Zoche aerodiesel @84kg for 150HP, although not in production yet (has been a looooong birth)

I think the main thing holding back the design is in earlier times there was a reluctance to change from Avgas for light aircraft. This is changing with the coming demise of lead in any fuels (including Avgas). Diesels are a lot more acceptable to the general public now thanks to Diamond Aircraft in Europe, and the world is waking up that modern diesels may in fact may be a good thing in aircraft.

The Zoche engine will be flying next year. That must be true as Zoche have been saying it for as long as I can remember.
