Hi All

 

Just removed my rudder and found significant wear on the top alum hinge bracket

 

The middle bracket worn but not as much

 

No significant wear on the bottom bracket

 

Anyone else had this problem ????

I'm not a Savannah owner, but that could indicate that the 3 hinges do not line up, or possibly that the top of the vertical stab flexes mor than the bottom in flight.

Yes I have seen it. What you will find is the hinges have been loose for a long while. What they do is rattle and spin in the aluminum and wear both the brass bush and the aluminum. You should check the aileron hinges as well they can wear fast if they aren't tight. All hinges wear. Keep up with the maintenance. Gundy

I am having trouble with the rudder hinges on my XL not aligning. Do you recall whether your hinges on the rudder were in line.

As far as I can recall they were in line with no problems

180 hours seems way too little time to get serious problems.

 

I wonder if the short time in service and the alignment issue are related? Alternatively, perhaps Bob's alignment problem is just a one-off??
