Guest pookemon Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 Queue the "He has a death wish" and "These video's promote people jumping out of Helicopters without parachutes" etc. etc. FT - It was a landing, and a good one at that (he walked away). ;)
Tomo Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 Man alive, that's something to put in the log book eh?! But certainly something you wouldn't see me doing!
youngster Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 Man alive, that's something to put in the log book eh?! But certainly something you wouldn't see me doing! Exactly how would that read in a log book? This sort of thing falls into the Buzz Lightyear category - "That's not flying, that's falling with style!" 1
Guest Howard Hughes Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 One could almost argue on the style thing too, only thing missing was a flaming ball of fire, but perhaps he could work on that for next time!
youngster Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 One could almost argue on the style thing too, only thing missing was a flaming ball of fire, but perhaps he could work on that for next time! I'm not sure a flaming ball of fire and five acres of cardboard boxes is a risk worth taking
Guest ozzie Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Were there two skydivers? Another wingsuiter followed him out for airshots. He opened real low about 200ft and off to one side. you tube has plenty of non press footage uploaded now.
Guest Howard Hughes Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 I'm not sure a flaming ball of fire and five acres of cardboard boxes is a risk worth taking But it's all about the show and what a show it would be!
PapaFox Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 "Notice that they do not so much fly as... plummet" (thud)
Guest Howard Hughes Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Were there two skydivers? Perhaps they sent two in the hope at least one would land on target!
Old Koreelah Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Perhaps they sent two in the hope at least one would land on target! Like bombing before guided munitions; dump many planeloads of bombs in the hope that one finds the target!
Guest ozzie Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Give them a few years of development. There are a few wing suit prototypes under going wind tunnel testing at the moment that look like doubling performance.
Guest Maj Millard Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Took a lot of guts allright..............nothing chancy about it, pure skill all the way, and great control and accuracy with the flying of the wing...............commited !!..........new nickname ...Boxhead !......................Maj... No guts..no glory..............
Herm Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 And they say flying a Trike is a bit breezy? Far too open flying for me. Where would you put your maps and charts, and how would you use them? Oz Runways would not work as their is no place to plug the charger into.... Or is their?
cherk Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Even with the boxes... this took some guts! ???????????????? maybe I missed it but .........I didn't see him walk away!
fly_tornado Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 probably had to stop and rearrange the wedding tackle after a landing like that.
rgmwa Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 probably had to stop and rearrange the wedding tackle after a landing like that. He was probably looking for it. rgmwa
Guest davidh10 Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 "Notice that they do not so much fly as... plummet" (thud) Think I saw somewhere a glide ratio of approximately 2!
Guest Howard Hughes Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 He must have stalled it on, because he certainly wasn't flying...
Guest Maj Millard Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 There are some additional videos that indeed show him walking cheerfully from the boxes. Also some great interview footage with he and wifey, cheerfully swiging on a very large bottle of champers. Another video shows the video shot from the other jumper, and facinating aerial footage from above, of his final track, and impact with the boxes. Looks like he ploughed about a 20 foot touchdown rut in the boxes........quite historic when you think about it ! Most others who have landed without parachute are not around to drink champers that's for sure !!......Someone was going to do this one day, and he did it with some style !...well done I say.........................................Maj....
motzartmerv Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Id like to see a 'go-round' off an approach like that. He needs to work on the hold off abit more...hehehe
Louis Moore Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 I bet as he approached those boxes he started to think to himself "BAD IDEA BAD IDEA BAD IDEA" Then after he landed he probably thought "Why the hell did we go for boxes and not foam!"
