turboplanner Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 I drew this graph of the spectacular success in reducing diesel emissions since 1992 for a training session NOx emissions are reducing from the right PM emissions are reducing from the top Both cause cancers The graph is to scale We are now down to about 25% of the emission of factories and Australia's diesels actually suck in dirty air and turn it into cleaner air behind them

What a wonderful improvement in the air we, our children and grandchildren can now breathe in the present day. Another huge improvement is the banning of smoking from trains. I used to catch the Blue Mountains train to the city and when you got onto the carriage at one end, it was difficult to see the other end (I am not exaggerating!). The thick blue haze from pipes, cigars and cigarettes was so thick that visibility would be simply too low to fly in. I became a passive smoker every morning for about 70+ minutes.
facthunter Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Modern cars do run steer ride and brake very well. They also have made great advances in fuel economy. A 4 cyl Cortina used to ne lucky to get 24 MPG. Now that same sized car gets close to 40 MPG
turboplanner Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Ah, the blood, sweat and tears we've given for you Indian Riders!
facthunter Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Simple rider simple bike. You better keep it up Turbs I was getting 125 Kms on 5 litres and the carb wasn't perfect. Nev
turboplanner Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Those were the days, hide a kerosene tin full of petrol along the way. You'd probably need a rest after 125 km on that wouldn't you?
Guest Andys@coffs Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 My Jabiru must have ABS, as there is no way it will ever lock up! Yeah mine too has ABS. "Absent Brake System" no...thats not true...how about "Alleged Braking System" Sometimes I think we need to fly with construction boots, and the fred flinstone patented floor cutouts. Andy
facthunter Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 I think we agree that the jab. brakes need upgrading. nev

My HX 1 tonner (253) was around 30 LPH before i pull it off the road. Modern V8 Ute 12-15 LPH easy enough
Old Koreelah Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 But the road toll reduction, in which Australia leads the world can be virtually attributed to Seat Belts, Blood alcohol testing and the ADRs. Right on, Turbs. I still burr up when people complain about regulations. Modern cars are mobs better than the vehicles we used to risk our lives in. The road toll is now a fraction of what it was a decade or so ago. This is despite huge increases in traffic pressure and average speed. The roads have not improved a great deal, and I doubt driving skills have either. When we attend a prang these days (and they are getting fewer) we see less injuries caused by the car interior. Love that plastic! The "over-regulation" so many people complain about has saved many lives.
