So, apparantly it's time for me to renew that lovely piece of plastic that costs me $190 and I use about once a year.

I have two questions:

1. If I let it lapse, can I renew it later or do I need to reapply? Is it difficult to reapply once it lapses? Only asking because I don't think I'll be flying on my PPL for the next month or two (trying to build up finances) so wouldn't need it and trying to delay having to pay $190...

2. As a lawyer, I can certify/witness documents. For the ASIC renewal, I need to get my photos "endorsed". Reckon they'd accept it if I "endorsed" my own? 059_whistling.gif.a3aa33bf4e30705b1ad8038eaab5a8f6.gif

Hi there darks, (Eagle murderess) Yes you can renew if you let it lapse, you have to go through the same BS anyway everytime you renew, so it doesn't matter. The application goes to the feds so they probabily would have a problem with you endorsing it. You only need a JP anyway...I'm sure you have one of those in your office ?.... I did the trip to Natfly and back recently and many of the airports we fueled at needed asics....we had no drama without one. I didn't renew last time. If you let it lapse you'll get a letter from RAA asking you to physically send the card back so they can cut it up. People at airports seem to have as much disdain for them as we do !..they just want to sell fuel anyway.....................Cheers Maj...024_cool.gif.7a88a3168ebd868f5549631161e2b369.gif

Judging by the amount of bullsh*t required I don't think there is any difference between a renewal and a new application.

Edit - Maj posted his response while I was typing this.

If the clowns in power were serious about security and terrorists they would be stopping the threat from its very obvious source, but we can't say that because the ignorant pull the racist card. Will an ASIC stop some home grown terrorist pig from blowing a bus to bits? Don't think so.

Don't renew it until you need to Princess, it is just a waste of money. As Maj has said, it is the same process each time whether you renew or just apply again. Remember if you don't renew, you must return the expired ASIC, it is a Federal offense not to.

Regards

If you get it through RAA you have to mintain your RAA membership. Not a problem to most, but if you are aiming for GA then it may cost you more.

Talking to Gladstone Airport office staff, I was told thatit is illegal to enter any part of the airport and if I flew in to the Subday hangar chat without an ASIC iI would be breaking the law, and to be ubder the supervision of an ASIC holder there has to be a form filled in.

Of course it won't stop terrorism, but it does help fund the government.

You are right Yenn. All the ASIC has done is make us honest pilots inadvertently law breakers and assumed terrorists. How any moderately intelligent person can assert that the imposition of ASIC cards on ordinary Australians will help eliminate terrorist events in Australia has got me beat! All they have done is create another 'Temple of Power' at the cost of the tax payer with NO measurable 'Cost Benefit'. Now how the hell do they get away with that.

1. yes, no difficulties even if your details change.

2. as far as I know - you can't do this on any legal docs? get your CFI to certify them if you are going to use RAAus

So, if I land at Broken Hill, fill up my tanks and depart, I'm breaking the law?

No I would still think you are allowed to land and get fuel, just can't walk around air side, toilets etc. The whole ASIC card issues is an assault on our democracy.

Willborne.

Ian I think they are feeding you some BS there, I escort/supervise non-ASIC holding passengers out to my aircraft often enough. The ARO's are aware that they are with me from when they let us through the gate to the GA apron. We have never been asked to fill in a form

If the fuel bowser is in a security controlled area and you don't display a valid ASIC ... Yes you are breaking the law and if someone wanted to make an example of you to prove the point of the law it would prove to be expensive for you. Not to mention the problems it might create for your future ASIC application.

Mick, the law on ASICs has an exemption for passengers having an ASIC where they are being escorted by their pilot to and from the aircraft. I think passengers are different to the example Ian was giving.

Yes as BHI is a "security controlled aerodrome" with RPT.

Bourke and Broken Hill are security controlled, however, you can land there, refuel and leave without an ASIC. This is because you do NOT have to cross the fence to access fuel. What makes me so mad, so very bloody mad is that Aussies have to go through this BS and yet some Ghandi who has been in the Country six months is likely to be the security guard who challenges you.

Refueller at Birdsville was sure interested in my ASIC

Must have been having a quiet or boring day!

Ahem, what we need is a lawyer to take on the Government regarding this issue, I'm sure there would be some constitutional action we could take. Freedom of movement between the States? Isn't that in there somewhere?022_wink.gif.2137519eeebfc3acb3315da062b6b1c1.gif

The difination of 'Sucurity controlled area' can be up for grabs depending on the 'local policy's'. There are a couple of airports that have clearly marked zones that cannot be accessed within 45mins of RPT movements of any type. Mt Isa used to be one example with the markings still present. (many years now!)

What is stopping you prearangeing an escort from the refuellers in say 'touch down to take off' supervisory role? From memory the regs state that the 'visitor' must be in eyesight at all times. A refueller sitting in his truck on the refuelling apron would have direct sight of most parts of the airport. Any thoughts darks?

Nothing hard about faxing a signed copy of any access forms that would be required..

What happens if the landing is declared an emergency? Cannot safely make destination without refuelling.. etc etc etc

They wont get rid of the ASIC (ANOTHER SCAM INVENTED by CLOWNS) because there are people who are employed to process them. The government likes to get the brownie points for employing people, even if it is for a worthless cause.

What really pisses me off is now having to get prior permission (PPR) to use airstrips that used to be just small general use country-town airstrips. Now after major upgrades by multinational overseas-based mining companies, they are suddenly supposedly owned and operated by those mining companies, just because they have also taken over (and generally ruined) the adjoining small country towns for miner accomodation.!!....When were we sold down the garden path on that one??....yes I am talking about Moranbah and Dysart in Qld as examples....................................................Maj...033_scratching_head.gif.b541836ec2811b6655a8e435f4c1b53a.gif 013_thumb_down.gif.ec9b015e1f55d2c21de270e93cbe940b.gif
