Great conditions. Also yesterday received the rear wing tube upgraded bracket so in the wet can fit the 600 kg wing upgrade and in a couple of weeks finish off Ben’s wings. In the parcel were a set of 17mm silicone coolant hoses and clamps for the Rotax 912 ULS that will be fitted in the neat future. Blueadventures Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 (edited) Been doing a bit of mod to the Nynja over Christmas while the rain is on and while helping Ben with his wing tanks and 600 kg upgrade. Just increased the lower cowl lip to create a low pressure area to assist cooling air flow. For a few years had a 30mm lip in lexan and now made a permanent 46mm lip with epoxy and mat. The 30mm was a good improvement in keeping temps down at maximum rpm. (Don't fly max rpm cruise often but will be good for long continuous climbs.) See how this goes and can always trim back to 30mm it needed. Edited December 27, 2024 by Blueadventures 3

Thanks mate, had been on the to do list for a long time; but inconvenient to remove for a few days so always had been put off until another time. Mainly being slack. Always had a lexan one but it got a crack in it. Glad it's done now. Merry Xmas and enjoy the festive season. Cheers. 1

Underwood Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 Hello, early Nynjas had the oil cooler in tandem behind the water coolant radiator. This leads to high oil temps in certain situations. Anyone have some pictures of how the Oil cooler is fitted in the more recent installations?, I gather its a pair of brackets coming off the gearbox (I have tried to find a clear photo online but no luck so far) Happy new year to all my fellow Flyers
Col Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 Pics from my build 2 years ago. Hope that helps. Brackets supplied with kit and bent to suit. Happy 2025 to you also 2 1

Blueadventures Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 This is how I did my fit-up back in 2014. I could not understand why they used to mount back to back and onto to the lower cowl. Brackets are made from 32 x 3mm flat aluminium bar. Nice that they supply brackets to mount oil cooler high under the propeller shaft / flange. 1

Thanks Blue, I see you also mounted the water radiator to the engine cases, I suppose it takes weight off the lower cowl and makes removing it easier too.

Blueadventures Posted January 10 Posted January 10 To reduce any possibility of CO and other fumes entering the cabin via the open tubes that the engine mount is attached to I have plugged both tubes with nylon caps. 2
Underwood Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Hello Blue, I have those tubes blanked off also. On a related subject, the UK CAA has recently sent aircraft owners a mail stating mandatory fitment of an active O2 detector, I have always fitted one anyway but its a pretty blatant admittance from the authorities that those black dot indicators that aviation suppliers peddled for decades are pretty much useless. (we all knew that really) 1 2
Underwood Posted January 12 Posted January 12 I apologise for yet another picture request. The Nynja I bought doesnt have a backup electric fuel pump (quite unusual I think) does anyone have a pic of their setup? I'm assuming most people fit them under the seat? Thanks

I’m travelling so can’t send image.
Blueadventures Posted February 5 Posted February 5 Got a new reinforced flap handle on Monday as required as part of the 600kg upgrade and fitted it today. Plan in about 4 weeks to remove wings to fit the upgraded brackets and the brace wires of the 600kg kit. Then get a w&b done and test fly to verify the 600kg POH prepared by the factory to update for my aircraft. 1 1

facthunter Posted February 6 Posted February 6 Even the best Engines in the world will not run with the fuel cock turned OFF.. Nev 2
onetrack Posted February 6 Posted February 6 I can recall a a fatal with a microlight at Beverley, W.A. in the late 1970's/early 1980's. He took off with fuel tank cock turned off. Got up to about 100-150 feet, and came straight back down again. The irony of the incident was, the bloke was a senior air crash investigator with BAS, and he must have seen and investigated dozens of air disasters caused by simple human errors, and a lack of disciplined checklists. Even the best of the best, and some of the most highly respected aviators, have terminated their lives (and others) with incredibly simple errors, related to forgetfulness. 1

Nev Absolutely agree, don't really like the valve but there should I need to stop fuel to engine etc. So have it in checklist twice, for before engine start and pre take-off roll with Mag and all other checks. Always work off list not memory. Been involved in too many crew incidents and other external investigations where compliancy and failure to perform checks was the factor. The cable tie is there to prevent inadvertent contact closing the valve and to keep fully opened. Edited February 6 by Blueadventures 1

Mine is not cenetred but mounted off one of the lower tubes under the passenger seat. I also fitted a bypass loop with a one way valve as a bit of belt and braces though I know the failure mode of the facet pumps is to fail open. other skyrangers at my field dont have a bypass, I guess there is no harm in fitting one except for the extra plumbing giving more failure points. I'm getting it signed off on Saturday and will take a picture. Thanks again. 1
