Check this out its the fore runner to the Spirit as you can see....although this one has Handley Page slats and flaperons the Spirit and Vision have normal stle flaps but the Vision has a very different thicker wing to give it the extra stol performance. Its a special design Max has done. The Spirit does not have VG's on the wing but the Vision does. This video is filmed in Columbia where Max lives and makes the aircraft also there is a inflight adj prop on this aircraft. Max says without the inflight adj prop you "castrate" the aircrafts performance

I wonder why Max dispensed with the flaperons??

The Tumaco was developed quite a few years ago the Spirit and Vision are later developments. He has got the stall speeds much better for normal flaps. Flaperons put a lot of stress on the wing and more particularly the hanger brackets normal flaps are easier and have a higher application speed

Steve are you going to Monto?

Tom is looking at this mob for a inflight adj prop for the Viking. 2 blade not a 3 blade to get the better efficiency at 72 inch diameter. These props can have pretty big paddles to soak up the horses so should provide more thrust than any 3 blade

Yes and which prop mob, Link?

Yes Gundy has one and loves it...I would love one for the Sav but at 13kg extra weight I cant afford it ....I am running on full now. By myself its no worries with full fuel 140 litres I am at MTOW but when I stick the Mrs in then its taxi around on the ground making airplane noises becuase I could only stick enough fuel in for a 30 minute flight with reserve

Trying to lose weight at the moment its bloody hard when you are on insulin..type 2 diabetic...I dont have lows mine is always too high but I really need to lose 20 to 30kg hopefully it will work now I seem to have found a way to lose weight and reduce the insulin at the same time. Finally something is working. The Mrs is actively doing it as well so if she can get some off then we can actually fill up the main centre tanks and go somewhere

This is another reason I am looking at the Vision....more room inside and more available weight and stall specs similar to the Sav if you believe the specs on the site it is actually better than the stall on the Sav and also faster by about 8 knots in cruise

Maybe you need to remove your extra fuel tanks to save some weight until you need them.

Went on my first cross country training flight today....I am knackered this afternoon so much concentration required for this. Anyway 195 nm flight Cab to Gympie to mryborough to Cooloola Cove to Teewah then via Eumundi back to Caboolture. pretty cool really considering the winds aloft total flight time of 2 hrs 45 mins. The Sav performed fantastically I am really happy...anyway enough blowing my own trumpet I stopped at maryborough and the Spirit is being finished off there so we ducked in and asked to have a look...name dropping is a good thing sometimes I snapped a few Iphone pics ....man it is huge inside the cabin and bags of room under the hood too massive baggage area this aircraft I think will be a real winner when a few start flying and people see them. There wasnt a lot of light in there so I apologise the pics are a little dark and blurry

I just stumbled across this internet article which reinforces the cozy agreement. Why was Max Tedesco not in the photo?

Up until now, every aircraft which has had some of Chris Heintz's design input always had the model designation CH-xxx. In an interesting departure from this, the low wing aircraft in question has been designated a plain 650Ei.

Yet one more interesting thing to note in the photo of Eddy and Chris, is that it is taken in front of a Savannah! ...the very plane that the zenithair.com website is a blatant rip-off. Among other things, it says: "ICP's Savannah is nothing more than a modified copy of our popular STOL CH 701 aircraft. In fact, ICP of Italy (www.icp.it) was a one-time distributor for the STOL CH 701 in the eighties (and also markets an unmistakable copy of our ZODIAC CH 601 design called the Amigo) and a closer examination of the similarities of the design and the construction techniques shows the Savannah to be more than a "derivative" of the STOL CH 701 - copying the design and simple construction techniques that designer Chris Heintz has painstakingly developed over the past 30 years.

As the article points out, the Savannah has been on the market for years without ever having undergone spin testing: Companies that copy an existing design typically do so because they lack engineering skills, and to profit from an original product's hard-won reputation. Modifications are marketed as "improvements" over the original design, but often these modifications are not properly engineered and tested, as the above demonstrates."

Why then, is Chris Heintz happy to smile and stand in front of a Savannah?

Eddy Razzano and Chris Heintz join forces to manufacture a ready-to-fly low-wing ULM

OFFICIAL JOINT ANNOUNCEMENT

Two leaders in the ULM and kitplane industry have announced plans to join forces to manufacture a ready-to-fly low-wing all-metal ULM sportplane for the European market. Touted as the perfect combination of aeronautical and manufacturing experience and know-how, the joint effort will soon see one of Zenair’s most popular aircraft manufactured entirely in Italy by ICP – manufacturer of the very successful Savannah high-wing aircraft design.

Zenair’s low-wing kitplane design by Chris Heintz is known and appreciated globally, but currently only available in kit form from its manufacturer. The sporty cross-country aircraft gets top ratings for its passenger comfort, remarkable visibility and economy as a touring sport plane. Hundreds of these kit-built aircraft are already flying worldwide; ICP plans to make the factory-built version available to pilots in Europe who want to fly rather than to build.

ICP has been working with Chris Heintz and Zenair engineers since early 2010 to adapt the design to ICP’s world-class manufacturing techniques and procedures; work on a pre-production prototype is already well underway with production models set to deliver in early 2012. The official debut for the ICP-built ready-to-fly Heintz-designed aircraft is planned for Aero-Friedrichshafen (April 18-24).

In a joint statement released today (01/15/2012) by the founders of both companies, Chris Heintz and Eddy Razzano expressed confidence in the new collaboration: “ICP’s CNC manufacturing capabilities will bring an affordable new aircraft to the European market” said Mr. Razzano; “I am very pleased that this joint effort will once again allow the sale of a factory-built Zenair design here and that ULM pilots will continue to enjoy this great aircraft for many years” added Mr. Heintz.

The new design, based on the popular CH 650 low-wing cross-country cruiser, will be optimized for European ULM regulations - including Germany’s LTF-UL standards - and ICP’s efficient production capacities. Roomy side-by-side seating with the trademark “bubble canopy” offering sailplane-like 360 degree visibility; powered by Rotax. The classic all-metal design is ideal for individual and club ownership as well as for flying schools. Projected starting price for a state-of-the-art ICP-built Zenair is under 60,000 Euros.

Distribution of the ready-to-fly ICP-built aircraft will be done through Zenair’s European representatives as well as through select ICP dealers. For additional information, visit http://www.icp.it or www.zenairulm.com
