Guest Fred Bear Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Today is definately not the day for flying (well not around Area 21). This afternoon and tomorrow forecast to be alot worse. Methinks no flying at The Oaks tomorrow.Sunday should be the better day. A Virgin Blue 737 just reported at 20,000ft wind 300 degrees 100kts  I'd hate to be up there in a Jab! Guest b1rd Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 The sun's out in Sydney as I type ..... but due to windy westerlies :;)6:. Suddenly the weather reports are of more interest to me ! Hope it settles down by Sunday. What's the maximum wind speed you can fly Lightwings/ Jabs in ?
Guest Fred Bear Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 12kts is the Jabs x-wind component. Not sure about the Lightwing. The Oaks can get real bumpy with Westerlies too!Sunday should be a good day though.Don't worry mate, I'll still take you for a fly in the Jab!Amazing how quickly it cleared here in Sydney.

Bumpy or not ..... excellent thanks Darren :).
Yenn Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 I hear the cross strip at The Oaks can get terrible downdraughts in a Westerly. Anyone had any experience of it?
Guest Fred Bear Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 I hear the cross strip at The Oaks can get terrible downdraughts in a Westerly. Anyone had any experience of it? One reason we do not use it (unless it's an emergency). That and the trees you have to climb over at each end!
Guest Fred Bear Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Its actually 14kts - even better!;) Oh close C'mon
PaulN Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Heh, heh. I knew when I read the wx reports this morning someone from The Oaks would post something about it. Thanks for not disappointing Darren ;). We had great conditions here at Cooma this morning before the front came through ... could even have a windscreen wash as you flew along at 500 agl. No, I didn't . Paul
Guest Emma Masters Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Good for shopping :big_grin::big_grin:
Guest David C Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Oh No !!.... I knew that dreaded S word would manage to creep in to the conversation Dave C
freddy Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Hello there southerners. Just been for a lovely fly in the Drifter. Light winds, warm weather (no Jacket required). Sometimes you can be lucky in Windyberg.
