Old Koreelah Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Hello folks, can anyone suggest a camera that will run off a cigarette lighter adapter? My current flight data recorder (an old Canon Powershot A470) won't keep recording for the duration of a test flight, even with the best batteries. Perhaps a camera run off the aircraft's 12v system would. Any suggestions other than the Go Pro 2, which is a little expensive? (Hey J170 Owner, was my thread title sufficiently descriptive?)
fly_tornado Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 you can use any camera with a usb port if you have a usb charger for your cigarette socket

Old Koreelah Posted September 27, 2012 Author Posted September 27, 2012 you can use any camera with a usb port if you have a usb charger for your cigarette socket Thanks, FT, that's exactly what I want, but most salespeople I talk to say that no, there is no camera that records while powered thru a cigarette lighter adaptor. Others say that the 12v current is variable and worry about damage to the camera. I'm off to the big smoke this weekend to spend the money, and would love to hear from someone who is actually doing it.
fly_tornado Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 USB is 5 volt 0.5 amp charge. You can plug your camera into a laptop via usb if you need a little bit of extra power.
