Tecsar Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 yep, http://www.flightradar24.com/ is showing the Dornier - VH-PPQ
XP503 Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 It's VH-UXG - a dark red and silver DH Dragon rapide (?) - beautiful a/c with interesting history......... Guys lets all stay positive for the outcome. But it isn't looking good. :-(
Guernsey Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 Photos of the aircraft at Monto can be seen on the 'Monto 2012' post. Alan.
CrayonBox Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 How do they search in the dark? Ppq rescu431 is currently at 4600 doing a star pattern search according to flightaware.
av8vfr Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 I would have thought the search pattern was a bit further south (according to Flightradar24.com) as most locals know of the Kilcoy to Caboolture corridor when there is low cloud around the ranges. I flew back on Sat arvo and I flew down to Kilcoy to avoid "tiger country" around the Connondale National Park ranges. And that was 5500' vfr.

Kyle Communications Posted October 1, 2012 Author Posted October 1, 2012 They have heat seeking gear on board can find heat from engines and people etc.....he did a loop near connondale but has resumed the pattern now 2
Tex Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 Forward Looking Infra-Red... as above Thermal Imaging...
CrayonBox Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 They have heat seeking gear on board can find heat from engines and people etc.....he did a loop near connondale but has resumed the pattern now That loop had me thinking they may have found her.
Kyle Communications Posted October 1, 2012 Author Posted October 1, 2012 He has dropped off the radar being so low it isn't picking up the transponder. After the loop he looks like he has continued the search pattern
XAIRVTW Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 This is Des Porter's Dragon. Very sad news hope all are ok. 1
Tomo Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 Pretty much everything we already know, but just another version http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/search-on-for-missing-plane-between-kingaroy-and-maleny/story-e6freon6-1226486050351?from=trendinglinks

It has been a regular attendee at AAAA National Fly-ins for some years. My thoughts are with the souls on board and all their families. Kaz 2
dunlopdangler Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 There is a little airstrip near upper kandanga which is pretty close to his track and under the present search pattern,, let us all hope that we will find them safe and well there.. 2
Guest Maj Millard Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 That looks like a standard search pattern. That beautifull aircraft did a lot of flying at monto this weekend. It is quite historic with a lot of history in Queensland. the WX today was less than ideal in a lot of areas.....................
Kyle Communications Posted October 1, 2012 Author Posted October 1, 2012 looks like he is going to Noosa to refuel maybe
Admin Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 Looks like the Dornier is going home now...I am probably a bit dumb in this area but I would have thought the track of a search would be more systematic like zig zag etc then what the green is showing
Guest Maj Millard Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 There are several types of search patterns that they use, depending on terrain, situation etc. Some are explained in the back of ERSA...............................................
