fly_tornado Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 A C-17 Globemaster III headed for MacDill Air Force Base on Friday afternoon landed “inadvertently” at the much smaller Peter O. Knight GA airport located just a few miles away, according to airport authorities. 3400Ft runway versus 11,000Ft Landing
Kyle Communications Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 What a magnificent aircraft...I am glad we got another 3 to add to the 3 we already had....Boeing stopped production of these aircraft the first 3 we got I think were the last to be produced...then Boeing changed their minds
Admin Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 Zoom in on Amberley in the Airfields section and I think there are 3 Globemasters...could be wrong but I think they are: http://www.recreationalflying.com/hotspots/yamb.46/map If they aren't then at least you can see the stack of F1-11's parked nose to tail
Kyle Communications Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 There are 4 in that shot...3 on the apron and 1 on the runway

flying dog Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 And how many "Oh my god" did you count in the LANDING one?
Admin Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Here is a better one of the take off...watch the inboard engines shake as they ramp it up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wi58Ds3Krgw!
fly_tornado Posted October 25, 2012 Author Posted October 25, 2012 It's no wonder they can't win a war, if the air force can't find the right aerodrome at home what chance have they got in Afghanistan.
flying dog Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Though it was said there would be red faces at the de-brief, I am sure the controller would have a few questions to answer as well. Vectoring them in on the wrong airport. During the landing the controller had every chance to say "Wrong airport - GO ROUND!" but didn't.
Guest ozzie Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 lucky the runway pavement could handle the weight.
Mark11 Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 The pilot certainly has some skill... Just not navigation
Sapphire Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 Was that them taking everything out before t/o

Ultralights Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 considering its size, it didnt use much runway at all, come to think of it, im sure some Cessna 152 pilots use more runway.. 1

dazza 38 Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 C 17's look awsome when they T/O & land on a dirt runway.
rick-p Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 I can imagine plenty of red faces and de-briefings... Mate I would imagine you are so right particularly the de-briefing, probably clean underwear all round, I would say! 1
