ayavner Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Hi all, This would be a tangent for me, just would like to experience a flight in a glider. Anyone know of a good place to get set up with a TIF to have a go? I am in Western Sydney area, but don't mind a bit of a drive.
deltacharlie Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 The closest place to you would be Camden.
denist Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Try Lake Keepit between Tamworth and Gunnedah. Its a seven day operation and you there is accommodation on site. Great flying this time of the year.
XAIRVTW Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Camden or even Pipers Airfield out at Bathurst.
ayavner Posted October 30, 2012 Author Posted October 30, 2012 Think i'll give Camden a go and see if i like it (which I can only imagine I will LOVE it). I feel like this may also help my confidence in the air overall in the event of engine failures or forced landings.
facthunter Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 I don't know if it will relate to powered flight that much. Gliders are so specialised and very high performance compared to the DARE I say it... "crude" things that are sometimes called aeroplanes, that have engines to make them work.. ALL experience adds to your knowledge base and if it dovetails it is a bonus. Nev .
denist Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Camden will be good for a TIF buut when you get serious (and you will) you will find the airspace resrictions annoying. Get out to the country clubs where you can experience the booming 10 knt thermals to over 10,000' and decent cross-country flights 1
Captain Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Tocumwal. Stay a coupla days. Nev Nev is spot-on. Tocumwal is by far the best if you can take a couple of days. Talk to Eddie and if he has the time, and you pick a good day, you can stay up for hours. Eddie is a great teacher. PM me if you want their phone numbers. Regards Geoff
ayavner Posted November 2, 2012 Author Posted November 2, 2012 man I can't wait! Might be a few weeks, but will update this thread when I do it. I know I need another expensive hobby like a hole in the head...
