Sapphire Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 Rotax ceased production of those two engines years ago and will be supplying parts for only a few more years. Does anyone know if there will be another source for those Rotax engines?
dazza 38 Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 I have been thinking the same thing.I was wondering when the parts are no longer available, what engine can be dropped in to replace it in aircraft like ths Sapphire and Vampire ?
ExJourno Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 Aerotwin. There is a 40kg 50hp naturally aspirated 4-stroke version of the 65HP turboed one. Surely it would fit the bill...

Sapphire Posted November 6, 2012 Author Posted November 6, 2012 Changing to different engines isn't like changing your underwear. Though the best engine would be a vw engine with dual ignition[either the full or the half block] Cheap to o/h and has a tbo over 1000 hrs. I think those modifications are only done in USA unless you do them yourself here. I vaguely remember reading that Rotax are going to restart the production lines for that engine.. You would want to know for sure before you bought an a/c with a 447/503
